The structure and mechanical properties of chromatin impact DNA functions and nuclear architecture but remain poorly understood. In budding yeast, a simple polymer model with minimal sequence-specific constraints and a small number of structural parameters can explain diverse experimental data on nuclear architecture.

In a moss sample collected from Mount Kulal in Kenya, a new population of Mesobiotus radiatus was found. Given that the original description of M. radiatus was based solely on the morphology observed by light microscopy and measurements based mostly on a single individual, here we describe the new population by means of integrative taxonomy and a large sample size.

Tragopogon porrifolius occurs in Turkey with 3 taxonomically confused subspecies: T. porrifolius subsp. eriospermus, T. porrifolius subsp. longirostris, and T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus. In the present paper, T. porrifolius subsp. abbreviatus endemic to Turkey is raised at specific level based on morphological and molecular analysis. After detailed assessment of original herbarium specimens and literature studies, we found that this name is not typified yet.

A new species in the genus Russula from the mixed coniferous forest of District Shangla, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan is described and illustrated. Phylogenetic data derived from DNA sequences of nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS), along with morphological characterizations, indicate the species is novel. Russula shanglaensis sp. nov. is distinct from other known species in subsect. Virescentinae.

A new species of Pseudocercospora is described causing leaf spot disease on Crotalaria assamica from India. The identity of isolate was based on asexual morphs, cultural characteristics and phylogenetic analyses of partial nuclear ribosomal 28S large subunit and complete internal transcribed spacer rDNA sequence data with high statistical support value. Morphologically this species has characters similar to allied species in genus Pseudocercospora but differs in having catenate and branched conidia.

Most genetic analyses of ancient and modern dogs have focused on variation in the autosomes or on the mitochondria. Mitochondrial DNA is more easily obtained from ancient samples than nuclear DNA and mitochondrial analyses have revealed important insights into the evolutionary history of canids. Utilizing a recently published dog Y-chromosome reference, we analyzed Y-chromosome sequence across a diverse collection of canids and determined the Y haplogroup of three ancient European dogs.

Reconstructed monomers were used to design a satellite-specific fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) probe. The data were also analysed within a phylogenetic framework built using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences of 45S nuclear ribosomal DNA.

Argeia pugettensis is an isopod species that parasitizes other crustaceans. Its huge native geographic range spans the Pacific from China to California, but molecular data are available only for a handful of specimens from NorthAmerican populations. We sequenced and characterised the complete mitogenome of a specimen collected in the Yellow Sea.

Reconstruction of population history from genetic data often requires Monte Carlo integration over the genealogy of the samples. Among tools that perform such computations, few are able to consider genetic histories including recombination events, precluding their use on most alignments of nuclear DNA.

The study of nuclear architecture using Chromosome Conformation Capture (3C) technologies is a novel frontier in biology. With further reduction in sequencing costs, the potential of Hi-C in describing nuclear architecture as a phenotype is only about to unfold.

Whole genome and exome sequencing usually include reads containing mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Yet, state-of-the-art pipelines and services for human nuclear genome variant calling and annotation do not handle mitochondrial genome data appropriately.

Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) projects provide short read nucleotide sequences from nuclear and possibly organelle DNA depending on the source of origin. Mitochondrial DNA is present in animals and fungi, while plants contain DNA from both mitochondria and chloroplasts.

Huyen-sam (Vietnamese name) which belongs to Scrophularia L. genus is a valuable herb. This medicinal plant is classified as Scrophularia ningpoensis Hemsl. Huyen-sam roots, which contain a large amount of bioactive compounds, have a similar morphology to its relatives. DNA barcodes promise to be a precise and reliable tool for distinguishing the processed Huyen-sam materials from their counterfeits. However, studies about using DNA barcodes for classification of Scrophularia L. in Vietnam are not available. Here, we conducted a taxonomic analysis of eight Scrophularia L.

Five species of Comesomatidae: Dorylaimopsis halongensis, Hopperia dolichurus, Paracomesoma lissum, Sabatieria doancanhi and Sabatieria praedatrix were identified based on morphological characters of males. To expose the systematic position of these comesomatids, we obtained nucleotide sequences of nuclear ribosomal DNA (D2/D3 and ITS region). The results showed the clear molecular differences between species in the Comesomatidae that proved to the morphology data.

Phylogenetic relationships among the species of Hellenocarum and its close allies (Umbelliferae-Apioideae) were investigated using nuclear (ITS, ETS) and plastid (psbA-trnH intergenic spacer) DNA sequences. The results obtained were supplemented with an examination of morphology from herbarium and field-collected materials, as well as details of fruit anatomy obtained from light and scanning electron microscopy

These plastid DNA sequence data also demonstrate that the western clade of C. crispa, specifically the western Asian clade, is the maternal progenitor of C. bithynica. Our analysis of DNA sequence data from the biparentally inherited nuclear locus gapCp supports an autopolyploid origin of C. bithynica, with C. crispa as the sole progenitor.

Alopecurus goekyigitiana, a new species from the Taurus Mountains of Turkey, is described and illustrated. Phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequence data support its relationship within Alopecurus sect. Colobachne with A. gerardi (plastid), or with the complex of A. davisii, A. lanatus, and A. vaginatus (nuclear ribosomal spacers).
