The objective of the present study is to enhance the hovering efficiency of a UAV helicopter with a spherical fuselage under the effects of the fuselage size (Rf/R) and the distance between the fuselage and rotor (Hm/R), where R is the rotor radius. The RANS method combined with the k-ε turbulent model is used to model the airflow through the helicopter. The numerical model mentioned was well validated by comparing it with the results obtained in the literature.

This paper describes an investigation of fluid flow through two tandem circular cylinders using Lattice-Boltzmann Method in direct numerical simulation. The diameter ratio of two circular cylinders, D1/D2 varies from 0.5 to 1.5, and spacing ratio (L/D2) varies from 1.5 to 10, whereas the Reynolds number of 100 is considered. The numerical model is well validated by comparing the results with those obtained in the literature.

In addition, we also show that our present solutions are valid for the problems of indentation by a rigid punch on an elastic half-space through a proper replacement of the contact radius and the corresponding material constant. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate the accuracy, applicability, and versatility of the developed solutions.

Education in public speaking often relies largely on qualitative feedback. In this study, we explored how a numerical feedback form based on a validated scale could be used in an educational public speaking program. Data were collected at three clubs of Toastmasters International.

In the present study, from recent experimental results of asymmetrical loading tests on SFRC beams without stirrups, three NLFE models have been validated and further developed to evaluate the impact that the ratio of shear span-to-depth (a/d) and the compressive strength of steel fiber concrete (SFC) have on the shear behavior and shear strength of SFRC beams without stirrups.

This paper concerns a problem of finite-time stability for a class of linear singular large-scale systems with delays. Based on matrix transformations, Lyapunov function method combined with new estimation techniques, we derive sufficient conditions for solving the finite-time stability of the system. A numerical example is given to illustrate the validity and effectiveness of the theoretical results.

This paper presents a numerical investigation of the effects of impact location on the dynamic response of aluminum alloy plates to repeated mass impacts. The numerical model was developed and validated against relevant test data. In the simulation, the strain hardening was adopted using existing published equations.

In this thesis, a numerical model with detailed reaction mechanism which is tailored for studying the behaviour of combustion of natural gas has been introduced and validated with available experimental data. The numerical model attempts to comprehensively simulate the physical conditions (temperature and pressure), equivalent ratio, and fuel dilution and strain rate effect in the laminar flames.

This study focuses on experimental testing and subsequent numerical analysis of impacted and pre-loaded composite coupons and bonded composite scarf joints under varying impact conditions. A methodology will be developed for the numerical modelling of preloaded impact tests to enable capture of critical failure modes and ultimate failure. The main aim is to validate a modelling strategy that will provide accurate failure characterisation of the tested joints using numerical analysis.

The numerical solution is successfully validated against available research results. Based on the comparison of the modification factors between of the present numerical study and those based on the design standards, it is observed that the modification factors based on the current design standards maybe not safety enough to predict the buckling resistances in several loading cases.

The aim of this paper is to validate experimentally a nonlinear model of a kinematically excited hinged-simply supported beam with a spring subjected to one end. An experimental setup configuration enables to test different variants of axial boundary conditions: first a typical simply supported beam (no spring), and next two different spring systems.

This paper presents the development and validation of a mesoscale composites damage model for predicting the energy absorption capability of “tension-absorber” joints. Tension-absorber joints are composite bolted joints specially designed to absorb energy in a crash via “extended bearing failure”, which involves the bolt forcing its way through the composite over a long distance.

Furthermore, a set of milling trials was proposed to compare the chip mass and the cutting forces estimated by the model with those measured from the trials in torus and spherical profiles.

In this paper, we investigate the functional acoustic performance of multichamber mufflers using a numerical approach. The wave propagation governing in expansion chamber domains is first introduced and solved by the finite element method. Our numerical results of selected muffler configurations are compared with the reference predictions model and experiments in order to validate the present procedure.
