Nursery farms that accept nursing and growing pre-weaned heifer calves from private dairy farms must work to prevent bovine respiratory disease (BRD). Knowledge of the BRD-associated risk factors related to calf management and calves’ condition will help to develop appropriate neonatal management practices at original farms and to identify calves at higher risk for BRD at nursery farms.

Leaf blight caused by Calonectria spp. is one of the most destructive diseases to affect Eucalyptus nurseries and plantations. These pathogens mainly attack Eucalyptus, a tree with a diversity of secondary metabolites employed as defense-related phytoalexins. To unravel the fungal adaptive mechanisms to various phytoalexins, we examined the genome of C. pseudoreteaudii, which is one of the most aggressive pathogens in southeast Asia.

In chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) several diseases are caused from fungal, bacterial and viral origin. Among the fungal diseases, damping off caused by species of Pythium is very common in the nursery which causes about 90 per cent mortality in nurseries and fields. Present experiment was carried out in in-vitro and in-situ conditions at Department of Plant Pathology, SHUATS in Completely Randomized Design with eight treatments and three replications each.

Fusarium circinatum, the causal agent of pitch canker disease, poses a serious threat to several Pinus species affecting plantations and nurseries. Although Pinus pinaster has shown moderate resistance to F. circinatum, the molecular mechanisms of defense in this host are still unknown.

The field experiment was conducted during Kharif 2019 at SG College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, IGKV, Raipur (CG), to identify the resistant genotypes for banded blight (Rhizoctonia solani). Result revealed that none of the genotype was found free from banded blight disease.

The disease has been reported to causes more than 60 per cent mortality of seedlings both in nursery and field condition and about 50-80 per cent losses during storage (Nirmal, 1992); rhizome rot resulted in yield loss of 50% (Rajalakshmi et al., 2016).

Of late, rice root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne graminicola has emerged as a major threat throughout the world due to its adoptable nature, broad host range and ability of causing potential yield loss. The losses caused by M. graminicola may vary from 16-80 %. The daignostic symptoms of root knot disease of rice are, stunted growth, yellowing, and gall formation on the roots of rice plants. The degree of symptom manifestation depends on several factors, viz., time of infection, age of the plants and load of inoculums.

Among these Damping off diseases in tomato caused by Rhizoctonia solani is very common to see in nurseries, an increased incidence of blight caused by Rhizoctonia solani was noticed in recent past in major tomato growing areas of Ranga Reddy district of Andhra Pradesh.

Zinniae is an important flower specie cultivated in India as well as in Kashmir valley. An unusual disease outbreak was observed in the nursery beds of Zinniae elegans. During ascertaining the cause of the disease a new pathogen Alternaria zinniae not previously reported from this region was found infecting the plants causing moderate to heavy blight. During the study Alternaria zinniae infecting Zinniae sp. was reported first time in the valley of Kashmir.

Collar rot or damping off disease occurs on one to four month old tender coffee (Coffea Arabica) seedlings in the nursery. Sometimes, the collar rot pathogen infects coffee seeds sown on the seed beds and prevents the germination. However, the pathogen fails to establish in coffee seedlings when the stem at collar region turns brown in color and becomes harder. It is a soil inhibiting fungus with a wide host range including coffee.

The present investigations was carried out to study the effect of hot water seed treatment comprised of different ranges of temperature (47-49, 50-52 and 53-55 °C) and discrete duration of time (30, 45 and 60 min.). The seeds of bell pepper and their most important seed-borne pathogens (Alternaria spp., Curvuleria spp., Penicillium spp., Fusarium spp. Colletotrichum spp.) have been investigated in laboratory. Thee numbers of infected seeds were observed and recorded daily and per cent incidence was evaluated.

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz.) is an important tuber cultivated in India. Cassava is vegetatively propagated through stem cuttings (setts). A mature plant with two stems will give about 12 to 20 normal sized (20 cm) setts after one year. Farmers are practicing 8-10 cm long cuttings from the mature part of stem and planted in vertical position in nursery bed at closer spacing of 5 cm. Under conventional system of propagation, 1250 to 1500 stems are required for planting one hectare of area.

Talc based bioformulations namely Biofor PF-2, Bioveer, Biomonas and Biozin PTB were evaluated against damping off disease of tomato. Application of these bioformulations as seed treatment and in nursery bed treatment before sowing significantly reduced the pre- and post-emergence damping off of tomato. Among all the bioformulations tested, Biozin PTB was found most effective in reducing maximum (76.68 and 70.76 per cent) reduction of pre- and post-emergence damping off of tomato.

Brown spot caused by (Bipolaris oryzae) is a persistent disease of Paddy (Oryza sativa L.) and associated with reduction in economic yield in the areas under dry and semi dry climate, with the nutrient poor field. Part of the paddy area under cultivation is salt affected in India, having longer water stagnation capacity, though having deficiency of organic matter and other essential nutrient, where during monsoon season only paddy is grown.

The most important diseases of eucalyptus in the plantations are leaf and shoot blight caused by Cryptosporiopsis eucalypti and associated with defoliation, dieback and mortality of eucalyptus trees. Disease causes major losses in nurseries and plantations resulting in failure of planting material and reduction of biomass production or loss of germplasm. Pathogenicity test using seedlings have shown that the fungus can infect stems as well as leaves.
