Nusselt number

In this study, instead of changing the structure of the pin-fin array, the work focused on the design of protrusion/dimple points on the leading and trailing edges. Numerical simulations using the SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulence model were performed to investigate the effect of dimple/protrusion concavity on flow structure and heat transfer characteristics in a rotating channel with pin-fin array.

Results are reported graphically for fluid velocity (radial and tangential) and temperature profiles between disks and in tabular form for skin friction and Nusselt number over both disks for different values of velocity and thermal slip parameters, Darcy numbers along x and θ-directions and thermal relaxation parameter.

The effect of the periodic oscillation of the gravitational field, known as g-jitter, on the free convection from a vertical plate is investigated in the present paper. The problem has been simplified by the laminar boundary layer and Boussinesq approximations. The fully implicit finite-difference scheme is used to solve the dimensionless system of the governing equations. The results for laminar flow of air (Pr = 0.72) and water (Pr = 7.00) are presented for different values of the amplitudes and frequencies of the g-jitter.

The measured Nusselt numbers showed a trend similar to those of existing studies, but the absolute values showed discrepancies owing to the high Prandtl number of this system. The measured angle-dependent Nusselt numbers were analyzed for 2-D and 3-D geometries, and a multiplier was developed that enables the extrapolation of 2-D data into 3-D data.
