  • Farinograph values on the contrary, showed the good quality of standard flour but parameter water absorption was better with addition of oat flour due to non-starch polysaccharides presented in oat. Extensograph device showed that increasing addition of oat flour decreased resistance to extension. Colorant cereals generally can increase biodiversity in agriculture, and can be attractive raw materials for production foods with added value.

  • A total of 24 blast infected samples were collected from major finger millet growing areas of Tamil Nadu and also from All India Coordinated Small Millets Improvement Project Centres (ICAR) in India. Pathogenicity test with Magnaporthe grisea isolates showed highly significant differences in virulence on the variety KM 252 in the severity of leaf blast. Among the five different media tested, the Oat Meal Agar medium (OMA) was found to be best for the growth of M. grisea isolates and all the isolates produced white colony colour. The mean mycelial growth was maximum in OMA medium with 80.

  • The treatments comprised of three varieties of oat (Kent, JHO 822, JHO 851) as the main plot treatments. The different varieties of oat gave different response towards the growth parameters of oat crop like plant height at50% flowering stage, dry matter accumulation plant-1 and green fodder yield with the successive growth stages. The results indicate that the variety JHO 822 of oat resulted significantly maximum in most of the growth parameters at 50% flowering stage but it was at par with variety JHO 851. The lowest growth parameters were found with variety Kent during both the years.

  • THE EXTENT AND TIMING OF PLANT GROWTH are controlled by the coordinated actions of positive and negative regulators. Some of the most obvious examples of regulated nongrowth are seed and bud dormancy, adaptive features that delay growth until environmental conditions are favorable. For many years, plant physiologists suspected that the phenomena of seed and bud dormancy were caused by inhibitory compounds, and they attempted to extract and isolate such compounds from a variety of plant tissues, especially dormant buds.
