Clinical examinations are subjective and often show a low validity and reliability. Objective and highly reliable quantitative assessments are available in laboratory settings using 3D motion analysis, but these systems are too expensive to use for simple clinical examinations.

Functional tests are widely used to measure performance in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Our objective was to determine the Minimal Clinically Important Differences (MCID) for the 6-min walk test (6MWT), the Steep Ramp Test (SRT), the 1-min stair climbing test (1MSCT), the sit-to-stand test (STS), the Jamar dynamometer test (JAM) and the lumbar Progressive Isoinertial Lifting Evaluation (PILE) in chronic musculoskeletal pain patients.

Sampling core subsets from genetic resources while maintaining as much as possible the genetic diversity of the original collection is an important but computationally complex task for gene bank managers. The Core Hunter computer program was developed as a tool to generate such subsets based on multiple genetic measures, including both distance measures and allelic diversity indices.

Pathology informatics is a relatively new field with limited structured training programs for pathologists, especially for computer programming. Here, we describe our efforts to develop and implement a training program in the department of pathology at the University of Florida to meet these additional needs of current students as well as faculty and staff. Three one-credit courses were created using a flipped classroom design.

An Erb’s Engram is a common debility that develops in recovering children with Erb’s palsy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of kinesiotaping over the deltoid and the forearm on the development of proper upper extremity function in children recovering from Erb’s palsy. Thirty patients with Erb’s palsy participated for 3 months in this study and were equally divided into two groups; control group A and study group B.

This paper proposes a novel cloud brokering architecture that provides an optimal deployment plan for placement of virtual resources in multiple clouds. The objective of the deployment plan is to select the best cloud services with optimal cost, taking into account various attributes defined in service measurement index (SMI) with additional physical and logical constraints.

Program correctness guarantees correct results for all valid input. But what happens when the input is invalid? Another important criterion of program reliability is the robustness, which measures how well the program runs under various conditions. In this chapter, we will describe how to code this exception-handling mechanism in Java to improve the program’s robustness.

OSHA will expect each trained employee to be capable of demonstrating their understanding of the training material and their ability to use the PPE prior to being assigned to tasks for which PPE is required. To have a successful training program, you need to set measurable training objectives. You should plan to test your employees' knowledge and abilities and document the results. If an employee fails to demonstrate proficiency and understanding on the subjects listed above, he/she must be retrained until satisfactory results are obtained.

Materials Measurement Science Division. The primary objective is to collaborate or conduct research consistent with division programs in support of measurement science, measurement standards, and measurement technology required to enable world-leading characterization of materials in support of the nation’s needs for the determination of the composition, structure, and properties of materials. The division develops state-of-the-art instrumentation, methods, models and software to accurately and precisely measure materials over a range of length and time scales.

After program outcomes are defined in general terms, the next step is to translate the statements into specific indicators that will be measured. For each outcome, the working group needs to identify one or more outcome indicators that could be measured to track progress toward the outcomes. Key criteria are the feasibility and cost of measurement. Outcome indicators should almost always begin with words such as “The number of . . .” or “The percent of . . .” Exhibit 8 illustrates the relationship between a program’s mission/objectives, outcomes, and outcome indicators.

Definitions of “program” may vary. Generally, a program constitutes some set of activities with a defined objective, such as an employment training program, a tutoring or mentoring program, a sports program, or a literacy development program for youth. In some nonprofits, there may be one supervisor per program, while in others, a supervisor will oversee more than one program. If an organization has more than one group providing the same service, managers can use a common measurement approach for both.

We have recently reported on two new word-sense disambiguation systems, one trained on bilingual material (the Canadian Hansards) and the other trained on monolingual material (Roget's Thesaurus and Grolier's Encyclopedia). After using both the monolingual and bilingual classifiers for a few months, we have convinced ourselves that the performance is remarkably good. Nevertheless, we would really like to be able to make a stronger statement, and therefore, we decided to try to develop some more objective evaluation measures. ...

In addition to clarifying educational outcomes as they relate to workforce needs and expectations, competencies are critical to linking course learning objectives to the SPH/PHP instructional objectives. The CEPH criteria require each SPH/PHP to state a mission that is supported by institutional goals for instruction, service and research. Goals are broad idealistic statements of how the institution’s efforts in research, service and instruction lead to the stated mission.

Clarity of PPHE goals and expectations. The PPHE program coordinator developed a detailed PPHE Resident’s Manual after witnessing some reluctance and confusion from residents about expectations in the first year. While part of this may have been a reaction to something new being added to the residency curriculum, the program leaders felt clarity of program goals and expectations would add to the program’s effectiveness. Need for flexible participation in PPHE. In the early part of the project, Stony Brook had expected to mandate participation for all residents.

One of the most significant contributions of the MEASURE DHS program is the creation of an internationally comparable body of data on the demographic and health characteristics of populations in developing countries. The DHS Comparative Reports series examines these data across countries in a comparative framework. The DHS Analytical Studies series focuses on specific topics. The principal objectives of both series are to provide information for policy formulation at the international level and to examine individual country results in an international context.
