  • The study was performed with completely randomized factorial design having in triplicate. The experiment was carried out at the College of Environment and Natural Resources of Can Tho University from July to November 2018. Morphological toxic symptoms and growth inhibition were clearly observed in salt-treated treatments. Among the four studied species, T. orientalis produced the highest dry shoot biomass (15.5 g DW/plant), while E. dulcis had the lowest value (2.8 g DW/plant). However, only T. orientalis showed significantly decreased in biomass as salinity increased with 9.3 and 4.

  • Rice husks were combined with unsaturated polyester resin, synthesized from glycolysed product of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) waste to form rice husk (RH)/polyester composites. PET from post-consumer soft drink bottles was recycled through glycolysis, followed by polyesterified with maleic anhydride and then cross-linked with styrene to produce a formulation for the resin. Characterizations of the synthesized resin were performed by hydroxyl, acid values and Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) techniques.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological efficiency and main bioactive components of three G. lucidum strains, viz. GA1, GA2, and GA3, cultivated in Tam Dao town. The results demonstrated that all strains were capable of growing well on PDA medium supplemented with rice bran. The time required for complete colonization was 9 days. All tested strains of G. lucidum were able to adapt to climate conditions and produce fruiting bodies with satisfactory yield (13-17%), and therefore, they could be considered suitable candidates for commercial cultivation of G. lucidum in Tam Dao.

  • An experiment with a total of 36 rice entries consisted of 28 cross and eight parental lines were evaluated to estimate the variability parameters for 10 yield attributing character, 6 physical quality traits; 8 cooking and chemical quality traits of rice cultures. Analysis of variance revealed the existence of significant differences among cultures for all traits studied. High PCV coupled with GCV was recorded for gel consistency and alkali spreading value revealed wider variability for these traits.

  • An attempt was made to evaluate eighteen physio-morphological traits and grain yield in eighteen genotypes of upland rice under irrigated and flowering stage drought condition. High estimates of phenotypic (PCV) and genotypic (GCV) coefficient of variation were observed for sterile grains per panicle, grain yield apparent contribution rate, water potential, straw yield and total biomass at maturity in drought stress condition.

  • The present study is an attempt to estimate the acreage response functions for major crops in Haryana within the framework of co integration and error correction model and to compare the short-run and long-run supply elasticities of major crops. The long-run acreage response to lagged price was positive and significant in the case of rice, rapeseedmustard and sugarcane with elasticity values 0.19, 0.22 and 0.29, respectively. In case of other crops except bajra and gram, very low positive but non-significant price elasticities have been observed.

  • An investigation was carried out in the BC4F4 generation with 95 plants for studying variability, correlation and path analysis. Low PCV and GCV values were recorded for the characters namely, days to fifty percent flowering, plant height, panicle length, number of productive tillers, grain length, grain width and hundred seed weight. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percentage of mean was observed for plant height, panicle length, number of productive tillers, grain width, seeds per panicle.

  • Fitting of an appropriate model to an observed time series data for the purpose of predicting the future values efficiently is always a challenging task. The practitioners of statistics in their first attempt always try to fit parametric regression model to the data. For all parametric models to be fitted, it is assumed that the model errors follow independent normal distributions. If that assumption on error distribution is not satisfied, then we should search for an alternative procedure.

  • An investigation was carried out at ZARS, VC Farm, Mandya during 2015 to study the variability produced in two F2 populations of rice viz., ‘Rajamudi × BR-2655’ and ‘Rathnachoodi × BR-2655’ with 500 single plants to estimate the variability, heritability, genetic advance and genetic advance as percentage. The results showed that PCV values in general were higher than GCV for various characters studied. The high PCV and GCV values was obtained for grain yield per plant and low PCV and GCV was observed for thousand grain weight and panicle length.

  • An experiment was conducted to study crop growth modeling at the paddy field of ICAR- Indian Institute of Water Management during Kharif 2016. The CERES-Rice model of DSSAT 4.5 was used to simulate crop growth and yield; Validation results showed that model predicted number of days to flowering with the RMSE values of 0.98. Four days difference was recorded between observed and simulated days to flowering in different varieties.

  • The present investigation to assess genetic diversity among 100 rice genotypes including five checks was conducted at Thyavanagi Village of Davanagere, Karnataka during Kharif 2016. Mahalanobis’ D2 statistics is used to quantify the degree of divergence. It is based on second degree statistics and pattern obtained by D2 does not change with number of characters. Mean values of 100 rice genotypes for ten characters were used to assess genetic distance between pair of genotypes. Genotypes were grouped into eleven clusters distribution patterns.

  • Mushrooms, also called as ‘white vegetables’ or ‘boneless vegetarian meat’ contain ample amount of proteins (20-35%), vitamins and fibre. Milky mushroom is robust, fleshy, milky white, umbrella like mushroom, having long shelf-life and lucrative market value. Ballari District lies in Northern dry zone of Karnataka receive 28-290 C mean temperature in January and highest maximum temperature in May reaches 430C. Hence, different mushroom species can be cultivated due to prevailing wide range of temperature in the District.

  • Edible wax coating is one of the method for enhancing the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, thereby post-harvest losses of these can also be reduced. India ranks first in the production of rice bran oil and large amount of wax available from the oil refineries. At present Indian scenario this wax is more used in pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries even though it is edible. Lack of proper refining method constraints its use in food application.
