A green sorbent material was fabricated through the simple addition of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to natural rubber (NR) latex. The effect of rGO content in the NR foam on petroleum oil adsorption was investigated. The addition of rGO in NR increased the petroleum oil adsorption capacity of the resulting NR/rGO (NRG) composite foam (12–21 g g1 ) with respect to those of the pure NR foam (8–15 g g1 ) and a commercial sorbent (6–7 g g1 ). The adsorption capacity was optimal for 0.5 phr rGO (NRG-0.5).

The results showed that the acetylation of sawdust enhanced the equilibrium sorption capacity of biomass towards the crude oil. Kinetic studies have shown that the data better fitted the Langmuir moldel than the Freundlich model. The maximum adsorption capacity of AS was 7.9 g/g of crude oil. These values indicated that the acetylated sawdust is a suitable sorbent with potential for further development for oil spill treatment.
