Okra fruit borer

Screening of okra genotypes was carried out under four different environments for shoot and fruit borer, yellow vein mosaic virus disease and enation leaf curl virus disease. The genotypes responded differently to different environments against different insect-pests and diseases. None of the genotype was found free from shoot and fruit borer infection, YVMV and ELCV incidence. However the genotypes that were found with some degree of resistance might be used for future breeding programmes.

Fruit borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) is a persistent pest on okra among fruit borer complex throughout India. Experiments were undertaken to investigate the persistence of spinetoram 12 SC against larval stage of H. armigera in the laboratory and to evaluate the effectiveness in the field in two seasons.

The infestation to okra accounted for nearly 22.5% in Uttar Pradesh (Verma et al., 1985). Earias vittella causes considerable damage at vegetative and reproductive stages and acts as major constraints in the production of marketable fruits of okra.

Bioefficacy of newer and biorational insecticides against shoot and fruit borer, Earias spp. on Okra
An experiment was conducted on bioefficacy of newer and biorational insecticides against shoot and fruit borer on okra. Efficacy of insecticides tested against Earias spp on okra indicated that the minimum per cent infestation of shoot and fruit borer was found in the treatment of indoxacarb (1.36%) followed by spinosad (1.75%), emamectin benzoate (2.57%) and fipronil (2.98%). The acetamiprid, acephate, dimethoate/ malathion and NSKE registered 3.25, 4.23, 4.81 and 5.28 per cent infestation of shoot and fruit borer and existed in moderate group of efficacy. The treatments of B.

Insect pest is one of the major Earias vittella is one of the important pest of okra and its management is also difficult for its insecticidal resistance mechanism though few chemical and bioagent are effective against fruit borer. Insecticidal like quinalphos, monocrotophos, fenvalerate, deltamethrin, Flubendiamide etc. are effective to manage this insect. Combination of these insecticides is also effective and also able to overcome Insecticidal resistance mechanism.

he field experiment was conducted to study the varietal preference of okra shoot and fruit borer, Earias vittella (Fab.) under field condition in Konkan region during summer 2016 and 2017 at RARS, Karjat. There were eight varieties viz., ArkaAnamika, Akola 10, Akola Bahar, PhuleUtakarsh, GOA-5, ParbhaniKranti, Panjab, Padmini, and VarshaUpahar (as a check) were screened for their relative susceptibility to okra shoot and fruit borer under field conditions. Among the eight genotypes/varieties of okra, none of the cultivars was found to be free from pest infestation in the year 2016 and 2017.

A field experiment was conducted during the Kharif seasons 2012 and 2013 at Students Instructional Farm and Vegetable Research Farm, NDUA&T, Kumarganj, Faizabad (UP) to find out the natural enemies of shoot and fruit borer in okra. The eggs parasitoids Trichogramma chilonis, parasitized 6.25 and 7.40% egg of Earias spp Kharif, 2012 and Kharif, 2012 respectively. Among predators, maximum population of Coccinellids 4.36 and 4.05 adult per 5 plants was recorded in third week of August.

The present investigation was carried out at Horticulture Research Station, Dr. Y. S. R Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari district during kharif season, 2018.Based on D2 values, the twenty-nine hybrids of okra grouped into six clusters. Among the sixclusters, cluster III comprised the maximum number of hybrids (6) followed by cluster II (5), cluster V (5), cluster VI (5), cluster I (4) and cluster IV (4). The maximum inter cluster distance was observed between clusters I and VI (D2 =65.06) followed by clusters II and VI (D2 =62.51).
