Older diabetic patients

This study aimed to assess lower limb strength and some related factors among older people with dementia examined and treated at the National Geriatric Hospital. Three-quarters of older dementia patients have impaired lower limb strength. Our results highlighted that diabetes, and geriatric syndromes such as malnutrition, high fall risk, dependence, and partial dependence were significantly associated with lower limb strength in older patients with dementia.

Poor oral health conditions are known to affect frailty in the older adults. Diabetes is a risk factor for both poor oral health and frailty, therefore, oral health status may affect frailty in diabetic patients more than in the general population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of oral health and other factors on frailty and the relationship among oral health, diabetes and frailty in older adult patients with type 2 diabetes.

Sleep disorders are commonly seen in type 2 diabetic patients. However, there is not much research about the association of diabetic complications and poor sleep quality. This study showed that older diabetic patients had many complications. Diabetic retinopathy and cerebral vascular disease were higher in the poor sleep quality group.

There are a number of well-recognized indicators of biological risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and death for which change over some period of time can be determined from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES). Collection of some measures began as early as the 1960s, and some are not available until the 1980s. Geriatric case management is a key ingredient of quality health care services for older adults. High rates of chronic conditions, dementia, frailty or disability, and sub-optimal home environment and social supports call for the integration of primary care and case management for elderly patients of community health centers. Case management may support health center disease management efforts but is primarily aimed at supporting the coordination of services that are necessary for living safely in a home environment.
