In Vietnam, there was a report in 1996 on the chemical composition of the essential oils from the leaves and flowers of two cultivars of A. sinensis. Unfortunately, at that time, the authors were not able to investigate the root oil of these plants (Nguyen Xuan Dung et al., 1996). In the present study, we report on the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oils obtained from the roots, flowers, fruits, and a mixture of leaves and stems of A. sinensis cultivated in Hung Yen province, Vietnam.

In this study, olive oil residue (OR) biomass was pyrolyzed in the presence of bulk MgO (B-MgO), nano-MgO (N-MgO), bulk ZnO (B-ZnO)), and nano-ZnO (N- ZnO) metal oxides at different temperatures (400, 600, and 800 ºC). Significant results were obtained in terms of synthesis gas formation and CO2 reduction. The efficiency distribution of the products obtained as a result of the metal oxide-based pyrolysis process and the effects of metal oxides were examined in detail.

Laggera tomentosa Sch. Bip. ex Oliv. et Hiern (Asteraceae), an endemic Ethiopian medicinal plant, is traditionally used to treat various ailments. Previously, the chemical constituents of the essential oil (EO) of its leaves and inflorescence were documented. However, no data about the chemical compositions of other parts of the EOs of the plant have been reported to date. Moreover, there are no previous biological activity reports on any parts of the EOs of this plant.

In this study, the total phenolic contents and total antioxidant capacities of some commercial bitter melon products (powder, packaged powder, capsule, paste in olive oil), and of unripe and ripe fruits were determined by spectrophotometric and chromatographic methods. The total antioxidant capacities of unripe and ripe bitter melon samples, determined by using the CUPRAC (cupric reducing antioxidant capacity assay) and ABTS (2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazolin-6-sulfonic acid))/HRP (horseradish peroxidase) methods, were 42.5 and 36.3 µmol TRE (Trolox equivalent) g–1, and 8.7 and 7.

The rationale of this elementary work was to develop starch based bio-coat for food items using permutation combination of starch of different sources (corn, potato, tapioca) and various plasticizers (glycerine, rice bran oil, sesame oil, castrol oil, soya bean oil and olive oil). An eco-friendly alternative to conventional petro-plastic polymer with a futuristic application as edible food wraps was intended as the outcome.

The liquid formulations of Nomuraea rileyi, an important entomopathogenic fungus were prepared by using two vegetable oils and two mineral oils viz., olive oil, rice bran oil, liquid paraffin oil, heavy grade mineral oil. N. rileyi spore mass was harvested from culture plates and mixed to autoclaved test oils in the proportions of 0.1g (0.5 x 108 spores/0.1 g) and 0.2g (0.1 x 109 spores/0.2 g) per 100ml. Triton-X 100, a wetting agent was also used in two different concentrations i.e., 0.05% and 0.1% for all four test oils. The pathogenicity of N.

Agricultural prices variation analysis is essential for the formulation of public policies and business decisions. Considering the strategic importance of olive oil for producers and consumers alike, as well as its potential economic and social benefits, this study aims to quantify the volatility of olive oil prices. The models are estimated using monthly data of olive oil prices (from January 1980 to February 2017) that was collected from IMF statistics. ARCH and GARCH models were used to estimate price volatility.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different wall materials and the processing parameters on the microencapsulation of olive oil by spray drying. Casein, maltodextrin and guar gum were used to produce olive microcapsules. Different combination of wall materials (casein/maltodextrin at 1:1 ratio, casein/maltodextrin at 1:2 ratio, maltodextrin/guar gum and casein/maltodextrin/guar gum) and inlet air temperature (140, 160 and 180˚C), for a total of 4 combination of emulsions were prepared.
