  • Volume 41 of the Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths adds four chapters to the series: two focus on nanoscale rare-earth mate- rials, while the other two are concerned with divergent topics—the arrangement of the rare-earth elements in the periodic table, and the higher order rare-earth chalogenide compounds with the elements of the 14th group and also In. The first chapter (248) discusses the various proposals suggested for the location of the rare-earth elements in the periodic table from the time of Mendeleev to the present day.

  • The first chapter (236) in this volume of the Handbook on the Physics and Chem- istry of Rare Earth is a recapitulation of the scientific achievements and contri- butions made by the late Professor LeRoy Eyring (1919–2005) to the science of the lanthanide oxides in which the lanthanide element has a valence equal to or greater than three. Although LeRoy had a broad range of interests in the chemistry of the rare earths and actinides the main focus of his outstanding scientific career was concerned with the lanthanide higher oxides. This chapter was written by Dr.

  • This Volume contains both the invited lectures and the contributions to the Workshop on The Physics of Excited Nucleons (NSTAR 2001), which was held at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universitat Mainz, March 7-10, 2001. The origin of this workshop series goes back to the conference on Excited Baryons, which was initiated and organized by our late friend Nimai Mukhopadhyay and his colleagues at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1988.

  • This paper pro -poses two ideas for adapting standard kinematic techniques to situations that do not naturally allow for the constraint of a fixed baseline. The first calls for extracting the information needed to resolve the integer ambiguity from the very data collected while the kinematic survey is in progress. The second idea addresses the use of the antenna exchange technique for mobile platforms where the original locations of the antennas are not likely to remain stationary during the physical exchange.

  • We investigate effect of higher Landau levels on the transverse thermoelectric conductivity αxy, describing the Nernst effect in high-Tc superconductors, by using the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory in two-dimensional model with thermal noise. The transverse thermoelectric conductivity is calculated in the self-consistent Gaussian approximation. Our results indicate that the contribution of higher Landau levels is less than that of lower Landau levels to the transverse thermoelectric conductivity. Our results are in good agreement with experimental data on high-Tc superconductor.

  • We calculate the dynamical dielectric function of doped double-layer graphene (DLG), made of two parallel graphene monolayers with carrier densities n1, n2, respectively, and a separation interlayer of d at finite temperature. The results are used to find the dispersion of plasmon modes. We study the temperature effects on the DLG plasmon modes in the case of symmetric system (n1 = n2), asymmetric system (n1 6= n2) and no free carriers in the second layer (n2 = 0).

  • In this study, two physical-chemical methods MAS-NMR (Magic angle spinning – nuclear magnetic resonance) and ICP-OES (Inductively coupled plasma – optical emission spectrometry) were used to clarify the effect of the introduction of zoledronate on the structure, dissolution and bioactivity of BG. The obtained results showed that the introduction of 0.1 wt.% of zoledronate modified the structural network, slowed down the dissolution and stimulated the bioactivity of bioglass.

  • Bremsstrahlung energy spectrum from thin W target produced by 15 MeV incident electrons was determined by a combination of measurements and theoretical calculation. The shape of spectrum was calculated by Monte-Carlo method using the code EGS4. The photon flux measurements were performed based on the activation technique using the high pure metallic foils. The radioactivities of the irradiated foils were measured by using a gamma spectrometer with a high energy resolution HPGe detector.

  • The stability problem of thin triangular plates by the small elastoplastic deformation theory, was studied in [3]. Basing on the theory of elastoplastic processes, this problem again has been investigated in [4] with incompressible material. In this paper we continue to study the mentioned problem with compressible material. The relation for determining critical forces is established. In particular the explicit expression of the critical force for the linear hardening material is found. Some numerical calculations have been given and discussed. ...
