Onion (Allium cepa L.) is a biennial bulb crop, produced all over the world. It is attacked by many diseases, out of which Purple blotch of onion caused by Alternaria porri (Ellis) Neerg causing heavy yield loss in both bulb production and seed production. Native Bacillus were isolated from the rhizosphere of vegetables and ornamental crops of the SHUATS campus and were identified through bio-chemical tests.

Onion [Allium cepa L.] is one of the most important commercial vegetable crops of Chitradurga district. It is mainly grown by small and marginal farmers. It is mainly grown for commercial bulb production during Kharif. Very less number of farmers goes for seed production during Rabi season with local varieties. This new extension approaches may help to farmers for technical interventions on seed production and self-reliance for quality seeds in district.

Seed priming with antioxidants can help the seeds to retain their viability for much longer, as the major cause of seed deterioration in onion seed is the production of ROS which is produced as the age of seed increases leading seeds to loose viability. Therefore use of antioxidants may have potential to be cost effective mechanism for prolonging the storage life.

Onion (Allium cepa L) is the most economical vegetable often used as a spice. The farming of onion on rainfed areas, by using broad casting method is very difficult. Broadcasting method results in the higher amount of seed rate, non-uniform distribution of seeds, poor bulb maturity, higher nutrient competition, and more over it is a time consuming and laborious process. By taking all these factors into consideration an animal drawn onion seeder was developed under rainfed onion crop cultivation with a reasonable cost of operation.

A laboratory experiment was conducted to predict the storability by accelerated ageing in onion in the Department of Seed Science and Technology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, during 2018- 19. The experiment consisted of fifteen seed lots with varied levels of germination and it was laid out in CRD design with four replications. Present investigation was conducted at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni (HP) to study the effect of changing climatic conditions on seed yield of onion (Allium cepa L.) in mid hills of Himachal Pradesh. An experiment was conducted to know the effect of storage conditions on seed quality of onion cv. Arka kalyan. The experiment consisted of three storage conditions (ambient condition, conditioned cold storage (18-20◦C, 45-50% RH), commercial cold storage (5-7 ͦC , 65 % RH). The results revealed that, seeds stored in commercial cold storage (5-7 ͦC + 65 % RH) recorded significantly higher seed germination, speed of germination, test weight, root length, shoot length, seedling dry weight, vigour index, lower moisture content and electrical conductivity after 10 months of storage.

Onion Allium cepa L. (2n=16) is the most important bulbous vegetable. It forms an indispensable part of many diets, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Onion is regarded as an important export oriented crop and fetches a handsome foreign exchange.
