Basal rot is a major fungal disease that occurs in onion crop caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cepae (Hanazawa) Snyder &Hansen. Severe yield losses occur in the onion crop due to the rotting of bulbs. Survey was conducted in onion growing areas of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Tenkasi districts and five isolates of Fusarium were isolated under in vitro. The isolates were confirmed by both morphological and cultural characters.

Survey conducted during the year 2016 and 2017 at three stage of crop growth of onion in four districts of the Kashmir valley revealed the prevalence of disease in all onion growing areas of the valley during the month of May and June, while during the month of April prevalence of disease was recorded at only few locations, while as rest of the locations were disease free with overall incidence of 1.70, 28.02 and 60.33 and intensity of 0.30, 5.96 and 36.44 per cent, during the month of April, May and June, respectively.

Purple blotch is the most destructive disease commonly prevailing in almost all onion growing pockets except in very cool production areas of the world. The present study was carried out to understand the diversity in Alternaria population causing purple blotch disease of onion. Out of fifty six geographical Alternaria isolates of Karnataka seventeen were selected as descriptive isolates based on morphological characteristics for understanding the genetic variability.

Onion purple blotch caused by the fungus Alternaria porri is a major yield limiting factor in onion growing area. A survey was conducted to assess purple blotch disease severity in onion during kharif 2019 in Nashik district. The purple blotch disease severity ranged from 27.20 to 52.80 per cent. The highest disease severity noticed in Satana tahasil (52.80%) and lowest disease intensity was recorded in Nandgaon tahasil (27.20%) during kharif 2019.
