In India, presently about 35 to 40 per cent of the onion is estimated to be lost as postharvest losses during various operations including handling and storage. Serious losses occur during storage due to sprouting and rotting. Keeping this in view, an investigation was carried out to study the effect of different packing and storage methods on storage life of aggregatum onion cv. CO on 5.

Onion being important vegetable crop grown in India is preferred mainly because of its green leaves, immature and mature bulbs which are either eaten raw or cooked as a vegetable. Post-harvest losses due to desiccation, decay and sprouting possess a great threat for effective economic use of onion.

From the experimental results emanated from first crop of okra, among the Municipal Solid Waste Compost (MSWC) treatments application of 100% Rec. NK + FMSWC with poultry manure 10% (9:1) at 5 t ha-1 along with phosphorus (M4P1) recorded lowest Pb, Ni and Cd contents at harvest stage in soil which was on par with the treatment, 100% Rec. NK + FMSWC with SSP at 5 t ha-1 along with phosphorus (M7P1) which was significantly lower than that of other treatments with FMSWC at higher doses. Onion crop was raised as succeeding crop to study the residual effect of municipal solid waste compost.

The field experiment was conducted during the Kharif, 2014 at University Farm, Post Graduate Institute, MPKV, Rahuri, District Ahmednagar to determine the residues and dissipation of deltamethrin 10 EC in/on onion and in soil. Three sprays of deltamethrin 10 EC were given at an interval of 10 days initiating first spray at bulb formation stage @ 15 g a.i./ha. (150 ml/ha) and 30 g a.i./ha (300 ml/ha). Samples were collected periodically at 0, 3, 5, 7, 10 and 15th day after last spray. The mature onion and soil samples were collected at harvest.

Effect of sources and graded levels of sulphur on growth and yield of bellary onion (Allium cepa L.)
A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of different sources and graded levels of sulphur on growth, yield attributes and yield of bellary onion at National Institute for Abiotic Stress Management, Malegaon Khurd, Baramati, Pune, Maharashtra. The treatments comprised of three sources of sulphur (Elemental sulphur- Bentonite clay, Potassium schoenite and ammonium sulphate) with graded levels of sulphur viz., 0, 30, 45 and 60 kg S ha-1 . The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with four replications.
