Optimizing cardiac stroke volume during major surgery is of interest to many as a therapeutic target to decrease the incidence of postoperative complications. Because dynamic preload indicators are strongly correlated with stroke volume, it is suggested that these indices can be used for goal directed fluid therapy. However, threshold values of these indicators depend on many factors that are influenced by surgery, including opening of the abdomen.

Acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery significantly associates with morbidity and mortality. Despite not requiring cardiopulmonary bypass, transcatheter aortic valve replacement patients have an incidence of postprocedural acute kidney injury similar to patients who undergo open surgical aortic valve replacement.

Right hepatectomy is a complex procedure that carries inherent risks of perioperative morbidity. To evaluate outcome differences between a low central venous pressure fluid intervention strategy and a goal directed fluid therapy (GDFT) cardiac output algorithm we performed a retrospective observational study. We hypothesized that a GDFT protocol would result in less intraoperative fluid administration, reduced complications and a shorter length of hospital stay.

Open cardiac surgical patients may experience severe acute poststernotomy pain. The ultrasoundguided Pecto-intercostal Fascial Block (PIFB) can cover anterior branches of intercostal nerves from T2 to T6. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of bilateral PIFB in patients undergoing open cardiac surgery.

This paper examines the memory system behavior of database management systems on simultaneous multi- threaded processors. Simultaneous multithreading (SMT) [4] is an architectural technique in which the processor issues instructions from multiple threads in a single cycle. For scientific workloads, SMT has been shown to substantially increase processor utilization through fine- grained sharing of all processor resources (the fetch and issue logic, the caches, the TLBs, and the functional units) among the executing threads [23].
