The tibial shaft is one of the most common open long bone fractures; treatment improperly can lead to many serious complications and frequently cause permanent sequelae. Infection is one of the most common and disastrous complications of an open fracture. This study assessed Bacterial cultures and the outcome of intramedullary interlocking nails in open diaphyseal fractures of the tibial.

The treatment of open tibial shaft fractures is challenging. External fixation (EF) is comparatively safe in treating these open injuries, meanwhile it has the advantages of easy application, minimal additional disruption, and convenient subsequent soft tissue repair. Nevertheless, its application is accompanied by a series of problems in alignment and bone healing.
