Numerical investigation of optical properties in carbon tetrachloride-filled photonic crystal fibers
In this work, we design circular lattice photonic crystal fibers using Lumerical Mode Solution software, its hollow core filled with carbon tetrachloride. Optical properties including effective refractive index, chromatic dispersion, nonlinearity, and fiber loss were investigated numerically in detail based on solving Maxwell's wave equations.

This work reports the optical properties of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) based on the metal-insulator-metal (MIM) structure towards a refractive index sensor. The MIM-SPR structure operating near infrared region consists of lateral periodicity of subwavelength gold patterns placed on a stack of thin silica spacer and silver film (acting as a reflector) on a silicon substrate.

In the present investigation, some novel S-(5-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)2-chloroethanethioate (3a–3e) derivatives were synthesized and their impact on optical properties was studied. They have also been characterized by elemental analysis and various spectroscopic methods including FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and UV-Vis techniques. The nonlinear refractive indexes of 3a–3e were also measured in dichloromethane via Z-scan method using a continuous wave diode-pumped laser at 532 nm wavelength. The nonlinear refractive coefficient of compounds was obtained from 1011 m2/W order.

In this work, a model is delivered, which highlights a simple mathematic relationship between the refractive index of an optical material and its transmittance spectrum measured by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. Such model allows determining the refractive index of ceramics fabricated by hot-pressing of MgF2 nanoparticles. The reliability of this method has been verified on a silicon wafer taken as a reference (< 0.5%, discrepancy with data from literature on Si). Our approach can be applied to a variety of promising novel optical materials being developed.

The present work focuses on studying the optical properties of the pristine PEDOT:PSS and the PEDOT:PSS modified with de-ionized water, ethylene glycol and MWCNT. The effect of various additives on the absorption, the refractive index, and the dielectric constant has been inspected. The refractive index dispersion has been analyzed using the single oscillator model developed by Wemple and DiDomenico.

The characteristics of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with various air hole diameters infiltrated with alcoholic liquids such as ethanol, methanol, propanol and butanol are numerically investigated. Based on the numerical results, we have analyzed and compared in detail the characteristics of these fibers including effective refractive index, effective mode area, dispersion and confinement loss for two sets of parameters {d,Λ} = {1 µm,5 µm} and {1.42 µm, 3.26 µm}, with d the air hole diameter and Λ the lattice constant, respectively.

In this work, we have interested to utilize Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) for monitoring sound intensity level. Acoustic disturbance could induces train and changing the refractive index of FBG. Therefore, light will interfere for the trough of transmission at one specific wavelength satisfied Bragg’s condition. In our demonstrations FBG sensor was perturbed with sound intensity levels of 60, 80 and 100 dB, the measuring Bragg wavelengths were recorded at1552 nm, 1553 nm and 1555 nm, respectively.

The paper proposes a new chromatic-aberration-measuring method for geometric optics of a single converging lens based on the Foucault knife-edge test. An opto-mechatronics measurement system aided by a computer vision was built to automatically determine displaced positions of the knife-edge for discovering chromatic aberration components in the measured lenses.

The results show that the stabe region of the optical tweezer depends on the nonlinear coefficient of refractive index. Moreover, the stable region could be brokendown with a critical value of the nonlinear coefficient of refractive index of the surrounding medium irradiated by Gaussian laser pulse described by given parameters as intensity, duration and radius of beam waist.
