The installation of renewable energy sources such as wind and solar is difficult to manage, between generation and consumption often has excess and shortage over time.

Model Predictive Control (MPC) refers to a class of algorithms that optimize the future behavior of the plant subject to operational constraints. The merits of the class algorithms include its ability to handle imposed hard constraints on the system and perform on-line optimization. This thesis investigates design and implementation of continuous time model predictive control using Laguerre polynomials and extends the design approaches proposed in to include intermittent predictive control, as well as to include the case of the nonlinear predictive control.

In the study "Optimization of Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and regeneration for CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing of commercial tomato cultivars", we have optimized an Agrobacterium-mediated gene transfer and regeneration system for CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in two commercial tomato cultivars for the first time. The effect of explant type, genotype, pre-transformation time, Agrobacterium concentration, infection time, and different co-culture periods of bacteria were evaluated to optimize the regeneration and transformation parameters.

Calendula officinalis L. is a commercially important plant that finds application in the treatment of various diseases in traditional medicine. The total antioxidant capacity, radical scavenging activity, and total phenolic content of marigold extracts were investigated by Folin, CUPRAC, and DPPH assays, respectively. The optimum operating conditions of microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) including temperature, extraction time, solvent-to-solid ratio, and solvent concentration were ascertained by employing response surface methodology (RSM).

Flowering is a critical reproductive process in higher plants. Timing of optimal flowering depends upon the coordination among seasonal environmental cues. For cool season grasses, such as Dactylis glomerata, vernalization induced by low temperature provides competence to initiate flowering after prolonged cold. We combined analyses of the transcriptome and microRNAs (miRNAs) to generate a comprehensive resource for regulatory miRNAs and their target circuits during vernalization and heading stages.

The majority of stress-sensitive genes responds to cold and high light in the same direction, if plants face the stresses for the first time. As shown recently for a small selection of genes of the core environmental stress response cluster, pre-treatment of Arabidopsis thaliana with a 24 h long 4 °C cold stimulus modifies cold regulation of gene expression for up to a week at 20 °C, although the primary cold effects are reverted within the first 24 h. Such memory-based regulation is called priming.

Betalain is a pigment found in plants, can be red-violet (betacyanin) or yellow (betaxanthin), soluble in water, a compound widely used in chemistry, medicine and pharmacy with the chemical stability in a wide pH range. Betalain is an antioxidant with antiviral, antiinflammatory properties. They are found in high levels in red beetroot and are a food coloring additive. Jangali Pyaz commonly known as vanpyaz (Asphodellus tenufolium) is a weed plant which is shredded off as a waste was exploited as a source of natural dye for Tassar Silk with objective of standardizing conditions of extraction and dyeing, fastness properties, ecofriendliness and colour absorption. The optimum dyeing conditions were 4g concentration, 60 minutes extraction time and 75 minutes of dyeing time.

An optimization-simulation strategy has been applied by coupling a commercial process simulator (Aspen HYSYS ) with a programming tool (MATLAB ) to produce a precise steady state simulationbased optimization of a whole green-field saturated gas plant as a real case study. The plant has more than 100-components and comprises interacting three-phase fractionation towers, pumps, compressors and exchangers. The literature predominantly uses this coupling to optimize individual units at small scales, while paying more attention to optimizing discrete design decisions.
