Elizabethkingia meningoseptica is an uncommon pathogen that has been associated with nosocomial infections and can pose a therapeutic challenge. It is resistant to most conventional agents used in treatment of gram-negative organisms and as such use of these agents may be unfavorable.

A novel goose-origin astrovirus (GoAstV) has broken out across China in recent years, causing gout in goslings with a mortality rate of around 50%. However, our understanding of the dynamic distribution, tissue tropism and pathogenesis of GoAstV is incomplete. In order to assess its pathogenicity, one-day-old goslings were inoculated separately with GoAstV via oral and subcutaneous injection routes.

Prevotella histicola is a facultative oral pathogen that under certain conditions causes pathologies such as caries and periodontitis in humans. Prevotella spp. also colonize the oral cavity of horses and can cause disease, but P. histicola has not yet been identified.

The emergence of multi-drug resistant pathogens is an urgent health-related problem, and the appropriate use of antibiotics is imperative. It is often difficult to identify the causative bacteria in patients with aspiration pneumonia because tracheal aspirate contains contaminants of oral bacteria.

Aspiration pneumonia has been a growing interest in an aging population. Anaerobes are important pathogens, however, the etiology of aspiration pneumonia is not fully understood. In addition, the relationship between the patient clinical characteristics and the causative pathogens in pneumonia patients with aspiration risk factors are unclear.

Oral diseases are among the major public health problems and the most common of chronic diseases that affect mankind. Essential oils could serve as an important natural alternative to prevent microbial growth in oral infection diseases. This study was undertaken to determine the in vitro anticariogenic activities of 11 essential oils against dental pathogenic bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus pyogenes) and fungi (Candida albicans and Candida parapsilosis) using agar well diffusion method, followed by determination of MIC.

The unique property of the silver and gold nanoparticles having antibacterial activity drags the major attention towards the present nanotechnology. Synthesis of nanobodies is of great interest in the development of nanotechnological tool for biomedical applications. This study investigates a competent and sustainable route of AgNP and AuNP preparation using Camel milk, well adorned for their wide availability and healing property. The silver and gold nanoparticles were examined by UV-visible spectroscopy (Systonic 2203) that demonstrated a peak at 446 and 551nm respectively.

Shigella is an important food borne pathogen in India. Shigella sonnei and non-agglutinable Shigella seem to be steadily surfacing. We are reporting a food borne outbreak of Shigella sonnei from our region. Shigella sonnei were isolated in 7 samples of 9 patients who had consumed common food made up of rice, potato, milk and water. The strains were sensitive to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, ceftiaxone, tetracycline and furazolidone. Patients were treated successfully with oral rehydration therapy, metronidazole and ceftriaxone.

Trichosporon spp. are ubiquitous fungi and form normal flora on skin and gastrointestinal tract of humans. There are at least nine Trichosporon species that are potentially pathogenic to humans. A 29 year old male visited our lab for skin scraping and examination of diffuse de-pigmented patches over both soles associated with scaling for more than a month. Skin scraping was done from both the soles. On direct KOH mount, budding yeast cells with hyphae were seen, suggestive of yeast like fungus. The culture growth was identified as T.

Despite great improvements in global oral health status, dental caries still remain one of the most prevalent diseases. Yet some brands of toothpastes claim to be effective antimicrobial agents. This study was therefore designed to evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial activity of commercially available toothpastes against some microorganisms involved in tooth infections.

This study was designed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of methanolic Myristica fragrans seed extract tested against four bacterial species isolated as oral pathogen. The susceptibility of these different bacterial species toward the extract of this plant seed was compared with each other. Results showed that methanolic extract exhibited antibacterial activity against gram positive bacterial species, the diameter of inhibition zone reached 28±0.14 mm against E. faecalis and 24±0.002 mm against S. mitis by extract.

Enterococci are the most aerobic and facultative anaerobe, gram positive cocci. They constitute a part of normal intestinal flora. However they also occupy other sites such as oral cavity, skin etc. Enterococci, which earlier considered as low grade pathogens, has now emerged as one of the most important nosocomial pathogens worldwide and are associated with high mortality. Study was carried out in the Department of Microbiology, National Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Jaipur (India) between December 2016 and December 2017.

Biofilms are the form of life for great majority of oral bacteria and contribute to various oral diseases. To maintain oral health a balance between the human host and the microbes is essential. The excessive formation of oral biofilm results in intraoral diseases such as dental caries, gingivitis and periodontitis. The ability of pathogenic bacteria to form a biofilm increase their resistance to antibiotics.
