Phalaenopsis is one of the most remarkable commercial genera in Orchidaceae family. Using immature explants for tissue culture of orchid results in undesired characteristics such as genetic variation and long-lasting juvenility. In this study, we optimized a protocol for somatic embryogenesis of Phalaenopsis amabilis cv. Jinan, by using mature thin cell layer (TCL) explants to minimize immature explant limitations. We examined somatic embryogenesis from two types of mature explants, viz.

Cymbidium goeringii is one of the most horticulturally important and popular ornamental plants in the orchid family (Orchidaceae). It blooms in winter during January–March and a period of low temperature is necessary for its normal flowering, otherwise there is flower bud abortion, which seriously affects the economic benefits. However, the molecular mechanism underlying winter-blooming behavior in C. goeringii is unclear.

The Orchidaceae family is one of the most diverse among flowering plants and serves as an important research model for plant evolution, especially “evo-devo” study on floral organs. Recently, sequencing of several orchid genomes has greatly improved our understanding of the genetic basis of orchid biology.

Result of study on the diversity of orchids in Southern East Viet Nam at 6 study sites from July 2019 to October 2020 have identified 173 orchids species belong to 50 diffrent genus, accounting for 14.41% of the total number of orchid species available in Viet Nam (1.200 species). Among them, all species were used as ornamental plants; 13 species were used for medicinal herbs; and 6 species were listed for conservation in Vietnam Red Data Book, (2019).

Orchids are the most fascinatingly beautiful flowers and unique group of plants of nature. With their exotic shapes, hues and the added advantage of longevity, these flowers of rare beauty have become increasingly popular in the 21st century. They belong to the Orchidaceae family and consisting 600-800 genera and 25,000-35,000 species.

Orchidaceae is one of the most valuable plant groups all over the world, and is also an impressively large and complex family of flowering plants. Effective molecular tools used for the identification of orchid species should be developed to support traditional morphological approaches. This study reviews most of the DNA fragments that have been used as taxon identifiers in researches conducted on Orchidaceae in order to assess potential molecular markers and metric measurements for the identification of orchid species.
