Ebook "Molecular spintronics: From organic semiconductors to self-assembled monolayers" will focus on the study of organic semiconductors spintronic devices, here Alq3-based spin valves. We will investigate magnetoresistance (MR) effects at room temperature using conventional ferromagnetic (FM) materials. These investigations were done wishing to improve the understanding on the two interfaces and disentangle their contributions on the spin polarization properties of the devices.

Ebook "Spin dynamics in radical pairs" sheds new light on the dynamical behaviour of electron spins in molecules containing two unpaired electrons (i.e. a radical pair). The quantum dynamics of these spins are made complicated by the interaction between the electrons and the many nuclear spins of the molecule; they are intractable using analytical techniques, and a naïve numerical diagonalization is not remotely possible using current computational resources.

Synthetically feasible and cost effective Ni(II) complex phosphor (4) as green organic light emitting diode (OLED) was prepared by using Schiff base 1-[(4-butylphenyl)imino]methyl naphthalen-2-ol (3). The single crystals of Ni(II) complex were grown from chloroform and hexane (1:1 v/v) solution.

In this study, 5 benzo[d]thiazole (3a-3e) derivatives were successfully synthesized in 2 steps through Suzuki cross-coupling reaction from 2-(4-bromophenyl)benzo[d]thiazole (2) and arylboronic acid derivatives in 80-95%.These compounds’ structure was determined through NMR and mass spectral analysis.

A green light emitting polymer in a PMMA matrix: oligo(azomethine-ether) with benzothiazole moieties
This study aimed to synthesize an oligo(azomethine-ether) with benzothiazole moiety in organic medium by means of chemical oxidative polycondensation (OP). Optical properties were examined by photoluminescence (PL) and UV-Vis measurements both in solutions and solid film involved a poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix. Oligomer film in the PMMA matrix emitted a fine green light with a fluorescence quantum yield (QY) of 3.30%. Spectral and thermal observations showed a high rate of C–O–C coupling (cross-linking) for the oligomer.

The one-pot synthesis of novel 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles from isoquinoline-substituted homopropargyl alcohol backbone is described (42%–88% yields). A ring closing metathesis reaction and an intramolecular Pauson–Khand reaction of enyne system derived from a homopropargyl alcohol backbone to afford the corresponding isoquinolinesubstituted dihydropyran and cyclopentenone-pyran, respectively, are also described (54% and 78% yields).

The nucleophilic substitution reactions of mono- and bis-spiro-2,2′ -dioxybiphenyl cyclotriphosphazenes (3 and 4) with cyclopropanemethylamine (5) and aniline (6) were performed in the presence of trimethylamine in THF. Five novel cyclopropanemethylamino- and anilino-substituted spiro-2,2′ -dioxybiphenyl cyclotriphosphazene derivatives (7–11) were obtained from these reactions. The molecular structures of the new cyclotriphosphazene derivatives (7– 11) were characterized by elemental analysis, MALDI-TOF MS, FT-IR, and NMR ( 31P and 1H) spectroscopies.

Three new derivatives containing thieno[3,2-b]thiophene, ethyl 5- (anthracen-9-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate (1a), ethyl 5-(4-cyanophenyl) thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2-carboxylate (1b) and 3-(5-(anthracen-9-yl)thieno[3,2-b] thiophen-2-yl)pyridine (2a) were synthesized by arylation reaction in presence of 1.0 mol% of Pd(OAc)2. Their structures were elucidated with NMR, MS and XRay analysis. The selectivity of arylation was at C6 of either ester or pyridine substituted instead of C2 positions.

Capability of exciplex energy transfer through a spacer was investigated using three exciplex-forming solid mixtures which contained the well-known electron accepting 2,4,6-tris[3-(diphenylphosphinyl)phe nyl]-1,3,5-triazine and appropriately designed bipolar cyanocarbazolyl-based derivatives functionalized by attachment of carbazolyl, acridanyl or phenyl units. These novel cyanocarbazolyl-based derivatives were used as both the spacer and exciplex-forming donor.

Aluminium tris(4-morpholinyl-8-hydroxyquinoline) has been synthesized and characterized. The photoluminescence measurements showed that the new derivative is blue shifted and has relative photoluminescence quantum yield two times higher compared to the pristine Al tris(8- hydroxyquinoline). Deferential scanning colorimetric studies revealed that the newly synthesized Alq3 derivative in this work is amorphous material with the highest transition glass temperature value among the reported amorphous Alq3 derivatives.

White light emitting diodes (WLEDs) were made by coating organic and inorganic hybrid composites on blue LED chips. Y3Al5O12:Ce (YAG:Ce) nano powder prepared by lowtemperature Sol-Gel method exhibited a broadband green emission spectrum with the peak at 521 nm.

The ultra-thin nanocomposite films based on the nano-crystal TiO2 (TiO2-nc) or multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) were prepared and used as the buffer layers in the fabrication of the organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The injection efficiency of the hole and electron was improved by inserting an ultra-thin buffer layer between the electrodes and emissive layer.
