The maximum decrease was recorded under high level of water stress (W2) compared to optimum level of water supply (W0). Application of amino acids and yeast extract significantly increased all measurement studied with exception of leaf water deficit, osmotic potential and proline content characters in favor of yeast application at a rate of 6 g/L compared to untreated plants in the two seasons.

Ferulic acid (FA; 3-methoxy-4-hydroxycinnamic acid) can eliminate stress-induced damage because of its ability to induce antioxidant activity under stress. The aim of this study was to identify the effects of FA on water status, antioxidant system, and lipid peroxidation in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) roots exposed to boron (B) stress. Plants were grown in hydroponic culture containing the combination or alone form of 25–75 μM FA and 4–8 mM B. Stress significantly decreased growth (RGR), water content (RWC), proline content (Pro), and osmotic potential (YP).

Excessive accumulation of salts is one of the most important factors affecting the production quality of plants. The difficulty to develop salt stress tolerant crops has prevented the security of the global food system. The classical crop breeding approach that uses random mutagenesis/recombination is time-consuming in the face of an ever-increasing human population and extreme weather pattern shifts.

The cytokinin production and transport from root to leaves is hindered under water stress causing leaf senescence due to the synthesis of hydrolytic enzymes. A part of stress effect may be linked to the regulation of osmotic solutes and maintenance of turgidity for stomatal conductance, photosynthesis and protein synthesis accompanied with reduced peroxidation of chloroplast and mitochondrial membranes in pearl millet under kinetin and cycocel treatments.

Plant growth and development are adversely affected by salinity- a major environmental stress that limits agricultural production. Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is sensitive to salinity that affects its yield and there is need to identify the tolerant genotypes. In order to evaluate the effect of soil salinity, a pot experiment with two chickpea genotypes was carried out under screen house conditions.

Salinity tolerance is a physiologically multi-faceted trait attributed to multiple mechanisms. Three barley (Hordeum vulgare) varieties contrasting in their salinity tolerance were used to assess the relative contribution of ionic, osmotic and oxidative stress components towards overall salinity stress tolerance in this species, both at the whole-plant and cellular levels.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to play crucially regulatory roles in diverse biological processes involving complex mechanisms. However, information regarding the number, sequences, characteristics and potential functions of lncRNAs in plants is so far overly limited.

Adaptation to drought-prone environments requires robust root architecture. Genotypes with a more vigorous root system have the potential to better adapt to soils with limited moisture content. However, root architecture is complex at both, phenotypic and genetic level.

A pot experiment was conducted under natural conditions of screen house to evaluate the effect of saline irrigation given at flowering stage on plant water status functioning and their tolerance in two chickpea (Cicer arietinum) genotypes viz. HC-3 and CSG-8962. The pots containing dune sand were saturated with Cldominated saline irrigation at (40-45 DAS) to maintain ECiw of 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0dS m-1 as compared to control. The control plants were irrigated with distilled water.

Sugarcane is (Saccharum officinarum L.) is one of the most important commercial crops of the world, including region where water availability is limited or highly inconsistent. Abiotic stresses may decline in potential yield of crop plants by 70 %. In sugarcane numerous environmental factors can have negative effects on the increase in expansion of production and salinity stress is one of the most limiting abiotic factors affecting sugarcane productivity.

This research was conducted during 2015-16 and 2016-17 kharif seasons in the Department of Horticulture, S. K. N. Agriculture University, Jobner, Jaipur (Rajasthan) to measure the influence on various physiological parameters of vegetable cowpea legume crop using growth substances and bio-fertilizers. The highest relative leaf water content (61.90%), transpiration rate (2.24m mol H2O/m2 /s) and leaf diffusion resistance (78.03s cm-2 ) were obtained in Brassinoids @ 0.50 ppm whereas lowest leaf osmotic potential (1.

Abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, heat and cold, are greatly affecting the plant growth and agricultural productivity and causes more than 50% of worldwide yield loss of major crops every year. It is a major global problem that limits crop productivity. Yield potential of modern cultivars is limiting by stress factors. These stresses are increasing because of the declining availability of good quality water, land degradation and pollution. In the plant, stress results in nutritional imbalances causing a reduction in water uptake and an increase in toxicity, decreasing the product.

Maize is an economically important crop and also a major shareholder in the global food bowl. The queen of cereals is widely cultivated across varied topography. Climate change and its related water stress are on the increase, reducing the yield potential of maize. The experiment with PEG-6000 was carried out in a completely randomized block design with two replications for twenty maize hybrids. The concentrations of PEG-6000 taken for study were 0%, 10% and 20%.

The results showed that the germination rate of the mung bean varieties decreased with increased NaC1 or PEG concentrations. The germination rates of the mung bean varieties in the PEG treatments were higher than those in the NaCl treatments. In addition, low water potentials induced by NaCl (-1.76 Mpa and -1.03 Mpa) inhibited germination and seeding growth of all the mung bean varieties.

All cultivars were able to germinate at all NaCl levels without a significant decrease in germination, while a drastic decrease in germination was recorded at -6 bars of PEG. It was concluded that inhibition in germination at equivalent water potentials of NaCl and PEG was mainly due to an osmotic effect rather than salt toxicity.
