This study examines the impact of ownership structures, foreign ownership, and concentrated ownership, on risk in Vietnamese commercial banks. We employ panel data analysis, considering financial metrics (ROA, ROE, ADZ), control variables (SIZE, LOA, LIQ, EFF), and macroeconomic conditions (δt). Results indicate that foreign ownership reduces risk, seen in lower standard deviations of ROA and ROE. In contrast, concentrated ownership increases risk, particularly in ROA.

Previous studies examining the relationship of foreign investors and form performance produced inconclusive finding. These studies assumed that a linear relation exists between foreign shareholdings and firm performances. This study examines the relationship between foreign ownership and firm performance of trading and services listed firms in Malaysia. The research utilizes the agency theory and uses ROA and Tobin’s Q as the firm performance indicator. Foreign shareholdings had been identified as the predictor variables and firm size and leverage are the controlled variables.

The study "Comparison of the performance of state-controlled and private-controlled enterprises - evidence from the electricity industryin Vietnam" aims toexamine the impact of ownership structure on business performance. The study uses a sample of 51 companies in electricityindustry listed on Vietnam’s stock market in 2017. The author uses multi-linear regression to evaluate the effect of the structure ownership on the performance of enterprises. The second essay examines the effect of banking system reform, which is defined by the presence of foreign banks, on investment-cash flow relation in a context of a small transition economy. I find evidence that the presence of foreign banks in Vietnam results in decreasing in firm’s dependence on local banks and has changed their financial constraint. Company investments are less reliant on internal cash flow in the post reform period.
