Rice cultivation is taken in flooded soil condition. This creates an anaerobic environment and harbours different group of anaerobes. The continued submergence of soil provides a reducing environment and effects a build-up of anaerobic ecosystem in which two unique processes namely methane emission and reductive transformation of nitrogen occur. But the role played by specific group of anaerobes with respect to nitrogen transformation is still obscure. A study was undertaken to assess the different groups of anaerobes in nitrogen transformation in flooded rice soils.

Ecological engineering and ecofriendly pest and disease management strategies in paddy is the need of the hour because of reduction in natural enemies population in rice ecosystem due to indiscriminate use of pesticides. Ecological Engineering and ecofriendly pest and disease management strategies in paddy was demonstrated in the farmers’ field as Front Line Demonstration in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. In the demonstration plot the dead heart symptoms was 3.63% and white ear was 0.86% compared to 13.29% and 2.

Methanol oxidizing organisms not only reduce atmospheric methanol concentration but also play a major role in enhancing methane oxidation through cross-feeding in synergism with methanotrophs. Possession of plant growth promoting (PGP) attributes in methanol oxidizing bacteria will prove to be a worthy candidate for developing novel biofertilizers having dual ability of plant growth promotion and reducing methane emission to a certain extent.

In tropical countries rice has been identified as one of the crops that are particularly susceptible to the negative impacts of pesticide use. In addition to the physicochemical nature of the pesticide, tropical climatic conditions and agricultural practices play important roles in determining the fate and distribution of pesticides in the tropical paddy field ecosystem.

An experiment was carried out to study the effect of mulches and irrigation scheduling on the growth and yield of ZT potato under rain fed low land rice ecosystem. The experiment was laid out in split plot design taking three levels of irrigation viz. Single irrigation at 40 DAP (I1), Splash irrigation at 15 days interval (I2) and Irrigation at IW/CPE = 0.6 (IW = 4cm) (I3) in the main plots and three types of mulch management viz.

Land use cropping pattern are altering the hydrologic system and have potentially large impacts on water resources. The present study aims at analyzing the impact of various cropping patterns on water quality parameters of rivers located at Pantnagar, for a duration of three months from August, 2017 to October, 2017. Three sites Barour (S1), Beni (S2) and Chakpheri (S3) were selected which exhibits different cropping pattern in their catchment area i. e. Paddy (Oryza sativa), Dhaincha (Sesbania bispinosa) and Maize (Zea mays) respectively.

Global climate change is a change in long term weather pattern that characterised by the region of the world. Human activities, especially the burning of the coal and oil, have warmed the earth by increasing the concentration of the heat trapping gases. The impact of warming can be observed in changing weather patterns. Climate change is already affecting human health, ecosystem. Agroforestry has been recognized as a means to reduce CO2 emissions as well as enhancing carbon sinks.
