  • A study was conducted at College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, India during Rabi 2020 to find rupture force of paddy grain. The grain rupture force of six varieties of paddy were determined at four levels of grain moisture content and three levels of loading rate by using Universal Testing Machine. The rupture force of each variety was determined at three loading rate of 10, 15 and 20 mm per min at same four levels of moisture content. It was observed that the rupture force decreased with increase in moisture content of paddy grain.

  • Field studies were conducted on application of zinc and boron to summer rice crop on Alfisols at Naganahalli village, Mysore district, Karnataka. The results showed that external application of zinc as ZnSO4 @ 20 kg ha-1 and boron as borax @ 4 kg ha-1 significantly enhanced the plant height number of tillers hill-1 , grains per panicle, thousand grain weight, grain yield and straw yield of paddy. Further there was significant increase in major (N, P and K), secondary (S, Ca and Mg) and micronutrient (Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and B) status of soils.

  • Paddy is major crop of India. The grain to straw ratio in paddy crop is 1:1.25 and paddy crop generates huge amount of biomass and it alone contributes 34 % to total biomass production in India. Mostly combines are used for harvesting the paddy crop. The end use of paddy straw is not yet wide spread either on farm or in industrial sector.   • The present investigation was carried out to know the effect of different grains such as paddy, maize, wheat, sorghum and ragi on linear mycelial growth for spawn development, yield performance and biological efficiency of Pleurotus sajorcaju. GNR 4 and laid out in nine treatments with Completely Randomized Design.   • The efficacy of sixteen grain protectants @ 5% was compared against Sitophilus oryzae in storage. Adult weevils were exposed to the paddy, wheat and maize grains treated with the protectants. The mortality was recorded at 1, 2, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of exposure. Subsequently, all adults were removed and the treated grains remained at the same condition for 56 days. After this interval, the F1 adult female progeny was counted. The protectants caused equally higher insect mortality on paddy and maize grain at 1 day of application.
