A study was conducted at College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, India during Rabi 2020 to find rupture force of paddy grain. The grain rupture force of six varieties of paddy were determined at four levels of grain moisture content and three levels of loading rate by using Universal Testing Machine. The rupture force of each variety was determined at three loading rate of 10, 15 and 20 mm per min at same four levels of moisture content. It was observed that the rupture force decreased with increase in moisture content of paddy grain.

A two year field study was conducted at Agricultural Research station, Ragolu to study the efficacy of selected agrochemicals on the development of diseases (sheath rot, brown spot and grain discolouration) during reproductive phase in paddy. Treatments were imposed for two times, once at 50% panicle emergence and 15 days subsequently.

In paddy soils, phosphate is generally very low available for plants, so to meet the availability of phosphate in the soil, it is necessary that Rhizobacteria solvent phosphate from solanaceae is able to dissolve phosphate that is bound to grains of soil organic matter, but can also stimulate the growth of Rhizobium bacteria (Rao, 1994).

Field studies were conducted on application of zinc and boron to summer rice crop on Alfisols at Naganahalli village, Mysore district, Karnataka. The results showed that external application of zinc as ZnSO4 @ 20 kg ha-1 and boron as borax @ 4 kg ha-1 significantly enhanced the plant height number of tillers hill-1 , grains per panicle, thousand grain weight, grain yield and straw yield of paddy. Further there was significant increase in major (N, P and K), secondary (S, Ca and Mg) and micronutrient (Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and B) status of soils.

A field experiment was conducted during rabi, 2015-16 and 2016-17 in the farmers field at Gajularega village of Vizianagaram district to know the production potential of finger millet under rice fallow conditions. First year finger millet seed was broadcasted in standing crop of paddy and left the crop without undergoing thinning and gap filling or any intercultural operations.

Paddy is major crop of India. The grain to straw ratio in paddy crop is 1:1.25 and paddy crop generates huge amount of biomass and it alone contributes 34 % to total biomass production in India. Mostly combines are used for harvesting the paddy crop. The end use of paddy straw is not yet wide spread either on farm or in industrial sector. Thus straw management in combine harvested paddy fields is a major problem in paddy fields. To overcome this problem, it was proposed that paddy straw is first chopped and then incorporated in soil with minimum tillage efforts.

Brown spot caused by (Bipolaris oryzae) is a persistent disease of Paddy (Oryza sativa L.) and associated with reduction in economic yield in the areas under dry and semi dry climate, with the nutrient poor field. Part of the paddy area under cultivation is salt affected in India, having longer water stagnation capacity, though having deficiency of organic matter and other essential nutrient, where during monsoon season only paddy is grown.

The district Kapurthala is a fully diversified in cultivation of crops as the major cropping sequence followed is paddy-wheat, paddy-potato-muskmelon/watermelon/spring maize/ vegetables. The present investigation was carried out to know the effect of different grains such as paddy, maize, wheat, sorghum and ragi on linear mycelial growth for spawn development, yield performance and biological efficiency of Pleurotus sajorcaju. Maximum mycelial growth of P. sajorcaju was recorded in ragi grains which was on par with sorghum grains followed by wheat grains, paddy grains and maize grains. Among the different grains tested, highest total yield and biological efficiency was recorded in maize grains followed by wheat, paddy, sorghum grains.

Distribution pattern of segregants and heritability estimates in paddy (Oryza sativa L.) crop for 12 quantitative traits in two F2 populations derived from the cross AD 16019 x ADT43 and AD16019 x WGL 14377 was studied at TRRI, Aduthurai during 2016-18. Platykurtic symmetrical curve for the traits with positive skewness was registered for the traits 1000 grain weight and single plant yield.

Significantly higher grain and straw yield (5159 kg ha-1 ) of paddy was recorded in package of practice (POP- FYM 5 t + 60:30:45 kg N:P2O5:K2O ha-1 ) +50 per cent N through vermicompost, respectively, followed by POP + 50 per cent N through poultry manure (5101 kg ha-1 ) as compared to package of practice (4425 and 5509 kg ha-1 , respectively).

An experiment was carried out to study the impact of Terminalia arjuna (Roxb.) leaf litter and hosted tasar silkworm excreta on quality of paddy and soil porosities cv. GNR 4 and laid out in nine treatments with Completely Randomized Design. The study revealed that the protein content of grain and nitrogen content of grain, straw recorded statistically higher with the application of 50% RDN through inorganic fertilizer + 50% RDN from arjuna hosted tasar silkworm excreta.

The efficacy of sixteen grain protectants @ 5% was compared against Sitophilus oryzae in storage. Adult weevils were exposed to the paddy, wheat and maize grains treated with the protectants. The mortality was recorded at 1, 2, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of exposure. Subsequently, all adults were removed and the treated grains remained at the same condition for 56 days. After this interval, the F1 adult female progeny was counted. The protectants caused equally higher insect mortality on paddy and maize grain at 1 day of application.

In front line demonstration on paddy, (Sahbhagi Dhan) highest grain yield (42.17 – 46.92 q/ ha) was recorded under drought condition. It was 54.28 percent higher yield over the farmers practice (22.61q/ha). An average yield of 42.17 q/ha was recorded in frontline demonstration and in farmer practices it was just 26.46q/ha.

Harvested paddy grain with high moisture content must be dried to about 12 per cent (w.b) within 24 hours for safe storage and milling. Approximately 9 per cent of paddy was lost due to outdated drying methods, milling, unscientific method of storage, transport and handling (Basavaraj et al., 2015). Mechanical drying is essential to maintain the quality of grain during storage to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi and the development of insects and mites.
