Cogen ash, a by-product of sugar mills obtained during co-generation process to produce heat and electrical energy by burning bagasse and/or coal was used to study its effect on growth and yield of paddy. The experiment was conducted in two sites at Bharathinagar, K.M. Doddi, Mandya during kharif 2014 with 13 treatments replicated thrice using randomized complete block design. The cogen ash collected from M/s Sri Chamundeshwari Sugars Ltd. was used in the study was more of silt sized, alkaline in nature with medium EC.

Paddy is major crop of India. The grain to straw ratio in paddy crop is 1:1.25 and paddy crop generates huge amount of biomass and it alone contributes 34 % to total biomass production in India. Mostly combines are used for harvesting the paddy crop. The end use of paddy straw is not yet wide spread either on farm or in industrial sector. Thus straw management in combine harvested paddy fields is a major problem in paddy fields. To overcome this problem, it was proposed that paddy straw is first chopped and then incorporated in soil with minimum tillage efforts.

Maize is one of the food crop grown all over Andhra Pradesh. After harvest of the cobs, farmers have the practice of burning the stalks in the field itself. To overcome this problem and to test the feasibility of utilizing maize stalks for oyster mushroom cultivation this study was carried out. In this study milky mushroom (Calocybe indica) was cultivated using maize stalks, paddy straw and with different ratios of these two substrates for three years.

Pre harvest forecast of agricultural production is essentially required for food security point of view. In this paper attempt has been made to develop model for forecasting the yield of kharif (Groundnut, paddy, maize) and rabi (wheat and mustard) crop of different district of middle Gujarat and north Gujarat using regression technique. The model were developed base on 30 years (1985 to 2015) district wise crop yield and weekly meteorological data and validated with 2 years (2010-11 & 2011-12) and forecast were issued for 2012-13.

A field experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2016-17, at the farmer’s fields in village Munshikhera, district Unnao to study the efficacy of halophilic bio fertilizers, Halo Azotobacter (Halo-Azo) and Halo Phosphate Solubilising Bacteria (Halo-PSB) on the growth and productivity of salt tolerant variety of paddy (CSR-36) and residual fertility of post-harvest soil. It is observed that potential salt tolerant variety of paddy in association with halophilic beneficial microbes together can play a greater role to improve the productivity of paddy as well as soil fertility.

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is an important seed spice cultivated in India. The effort was made to cultivate and evaluate the different genotypes of coriander in hill zone (Zone-9) of Karnataka. The Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka comes under Zone-9, which receives 2500-3000 mm rainfall annually and paddy is grown as a rainfed crop during Kharif season. Harvested paddy grain with high moisture content must be dried to about 12 per cent (w.b) within 24 hours for safe storage and milling. Approximately 9 per cent of paddy was lost due to outdated drying methods, milling, unscientific method of storage, transport and handling (Basavaraj et al., 2015). Mechanical drying is essential to maintain the quality of grain during storage to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi and the development of insects and mites.

Pleurotus sajor-caju, a nutrient rich mushroom was cultivated on four different substrates, viz. Wheat straw, Paddy straw Maize stalk and Typha Leaves substrates. It was observed Wheat straw followed by paddy straw Wheat straw, Maize stalk and Typha Leaves. The third harvesting was complete in 42 days in case of wheat straw, which was statistically more compared to paddy straw and maize stalk. The effect of various substrates on the yield of fresh mushroom the result indicated that higher yield of 475.

Production of biofuels, especially bio-ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass, holds remarkable potential to meet the current energy demand as well as to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions for a sustainable clean environment.
