  • Since ancient times, mushrooms have been considered as a special kind of food. Blue oyster mushroom is a novel species with very large fruit body, blue coloured pinheads becoming light white on maturity, high yielder, palatable with meaty flavour and attractive keeping quality. Different types of cereal grains i.e. maize, sorghum, bajra, wheat and paddy were taken to see their effect on spawn development and Different substrates i.e. wheat straw, paddy straw, mustard straw, sesamum straw and pigeon pea straw significantly influenced the spawn run period, pinhead initiation and yield of H.

  • Maize is one of the food crop grown all over Andhra Pradesh. After harvest of the cobs, farmers have the practice of burning the stalks in the field itself. To overcome this problem and to test the feasibility of utilizing maize stalks for oyster mushroom cultivation this study was carried out. In this study milky mushroom (Calocybe indica) was cultivated using maize stalks, paddy straw and with different ratios of these two substrates for three years.

  • Three species of Oyster mushroom like, Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus sajor-caju, Pleurotus florida mother culture were procured from DMR, Solan and wild collected strain was collected from Bankura district in West Bengal during the monsoon season of 2017- 18. The experimental fruiting trials were conducted under the mushroom house conditions using three substrates viz. Paddy straw, Paddy straw + Sugarcane bagasse (1:1) and Sugarcane bagaase to observe variation in spawn run days, pinning initiation and biological efficiency.

  • Five substrates viz., wheat straw, paddy straw, sorghum straw, maize straw, sugarcane bagasse and banana pseudo stem were evaluated for production of pink oyster mushroom. Four parameter related to growth viz., No. of fruiting body, diameter of cap, length and thickness of stipe was measured. The results revealed that the highest number of fruiting body was found in wheat straw (31.00) followed by paddy straw (27.00). The stipe length of mushroom on different substrates ranged from 2.34 to 3.08 cm. The highest stipe length was observed in wheat straw (3.

  • Different silkworm residues in combination with paddy straw were evaluated for button mushroom (Agaricus bisporus Lange) production. The substrate was prepared by substituting silk worm leaf litter, silk worm excreta and spent silk moth residue with paddy straw at 25 and 50 percents. The yield and bio-efficiency of button mushroom was found to be highest in control treatment, paddy straw (927 g per 5.00 kg substrate and 61.80%, respectively) and the yield was ranged between 890 and 760 g per 5.

  • Pleurotus sajor-caju, a nutrient rich mushroom was cultivated on four different substrates, viz. Wheat straw, Paddy straw Maize stalk and Typha Leaves substrates. It was observed Wheat straw followed by paddy straw Wheat straw, Maize stalk and Typha Leaves. The third harvesting was complete in 42 days in case of wheat straw, which was statistically more compared to paddy straw and maize stalk. The effect of various substrates on the yield of fresh mushroom the result indicated that higher yield of 475.

  • Mushrooms, also called as ‘white vegetables’ or ‘boneless vegetarian meat’ contain ample amount of proteins (20-35%), vitamins and fibre. Milky mushroom is robust, fleshy, milky white, umbrella like mushroom, having long shelf-life and lucrative market value. Ballari District lies in Northern dry zone of Karnataka receive 28-290 C mean temperature in January and highest maximum temperature in May reaches 430C. Hence, different mushroom species can be cultivated due to prevailing wide range of temperature in the District.

  • Under present investigation, AMMI (Additive main effects and multiplicative interaction) model was validated to study and identify the stable genotype in Volvariella volvacea (Paddy straw mushroom) under varied environmental conditions. A slight change in temperature and humidity can cause larger difference in the crop yield. Moreover, the identification of strain selection criteria for better yield is also needed to be identified for genetic improvement.

  • The experiment laid out at mushroom production technology laboratory of Department of Plant Pathology, Haryana Agricultural University during August 2013 and April 2014. Paddy straw mushroom was raised by using standard production technology given by DMR, Solan. Total ten treatments and control replicated three times were evaluated for effect on spawn run time. The results showed that maximum time taken for spawn run time recorded in control, however minimum in Novaluron 10 EC (0.5 ml/l) which was statistically at par with Chlorpyrifos 20 EC (4 ml/l) and Novaluron (1 and 1.

  • Paddy straw mushroom/ Chinese mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) is highly suited in tropical climates. The success of this mushroom production is solely depended on high quality spawn and improved technologies. Among the additives, calcium carbonate amended beds recorded maximum amount of total glutathione, total phenol, flavonoids, lycopene, total carotenoids, vitamin A and vitamin C were recorded. This was followed by horse gram, gypsum and calcium carbonate + gypsum. In non-amended medium significantly very less amount of antioxidative substances were recorded.

  • Composting is carried out under aerobic thermogenesis to prepare a selective substrate for Agaricus bisporus production. Conventionally, wheat straw based synthetic compost is used for its production. Use of paddy straw as such tends to make the composting process anaerobic leading to low quality compost and low yields. In the present study, an alternative high yielding compost formulation based on paddy straw + maize stalks as a substitute to the existing wheat straw based compost has been made.
