Power weeder uproots the weeds between the paddy crop rows with 25 cm row to row distance, in addition to, it keeps the soil surface loose for better soil aeration and water intake capacity. In this study modification was done to existing STIHL power weeder which is operated in line with the attachment of float and covering structure on weeding wheel to avoid mud splash over operator. In this study, the existing weeder and modified weeder has studied ergonomically. 3-axis accelerometer, showed that modified weeder has less vibration of 1.984 m/s2 from the existing weeder.

Weed is a crop which is grown along with the main crop and competes for sunlight, food, water and space. Weeding is very tedious operation as compared to all other agriculture operations. Most parts of the country weeding operation is being done by manual methods and also by mechanical methods. Drudgery involved in weeding operation increases stress on worker causing increase in heart rate and oxygen consumption. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the agronomical evaluation of power weeder. The heart rate and oxygen consumption rate of operator was varied from 131.0 to 145.

A study was conducted for performance evaluation of prototype ride on type paddy weeder in wetland field, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India. The experimental site is geographically situated at 11o North latitude and 77o East longitude and at an altitude of 427 m above MSL.Weed is inevitable part of farming. SRI system of rice cultivation naturally weed growth is more in the fields because there is no stagnated water.

The power source of farm machinery in every aspect is an engine, which is the costliest one in relation with the remaining parts of that machinery. If we could use the same source of power for different aspects, investment could be benefitted with multipurpose operations. Most of the farmers own some frequently required equipment like sprayer for fertigation.

A power operated single row weeder for inter row weeding was evaluated in rice crop and compared with traditional methods of manual weeding in farmers field at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kanker (CG). The power weeder consisted of engine, blades assembly and transmission system.

In srikakulam district of andhra pradesh, paddy is major important crop during kharif cultivated in an area of 2,01,148 ha out of total cropped area of 2,66,433 ha with productivity of 4587 kg/ha. In the district, traditional method of paddy cultivation, adoption of more seed rate, late transplanting with over aged seedlings, close spacing coupled with scarcity of labour and escalation in labor wages, reduction in labor efficiency are leading to lower yields and low net returns, besides that farmers are distressed to cultivate paddy.

Generally farmers prefer manual weeding due to the lack of awareness about the mechanical weeder. But manual weeding is a most laborious and time consuming process. Nowadays mechanical weeders are being promoted to reduce drudgery, time of operation and to overcome the lack of labours problem. The study has been conducted on sandy loam and clay loam soils to evaluate the performance of two mechanical power weeders i.e., Garuda power weeder and Japanese power weeder. From the results, Garuda weeder has the highest weeding efficiency of 68.62 and 76.92 % and lowest plant damage of 24 and 13.
