Pancreatic tissue

Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a benign inflammatory disease involving the progressive and irreversible destruction of the pancreatic tissue, fibrosis and loss of exocrine and endocrine function. Clinical management of CP is also challenging because of the incomplete understanding of disease and pain pathogenesis. In Hue Central Hospital, CP is primarily treated with open drainage procedures.

Trypsinogen-1 and -2 are well-characterized enzymes that are expressed in the pancreas and also in several other tissues. Many cancers produce tryp-sinogen isoenzymes that differ from the pancreatic ones with respect to substrate specificity and isoelectric point.

Intermediate-risk patients are those with any of the following criteria: microscopic tumour invasion into the perithyroidal tissues at initial surgery, cervical lymph node metastases or 131I uptake outside the thyroid bed on the initial post-treatment scan, or tumour with aggressive histology or vascular invasion. Finally, high-risk patients have macroscopic tumour invasion, incomplete tumour resection, distant metastases or elevated thyroglobulin out of proportion to what is seen on the post-treatment scan (Cooper et al., 2009).

Vitamin D deficiency, impaired 1,25(OH)2D production (primarily secondary to renal insufficiency), or, rarely, vitamin D resistance also cause hypocalcemia. However, the degree of hypocalcemia in these disorders is generally not as severe as that seen with hypoparathyroidism because the parathyroids are capable of mounting a compensatory increase in PTH secretion.
