  • The present investigation was carried out in Biotechnology Laboratory, Department of Olericulture, KAU, Vellanikkara with four genotypes of cucumber comprising gynoecious, monoecious and two parthenocarpic genotypes for in vitro plant regeneration. Seeds were grown in the culture bottles quarterly filled with half strength MS basal medium. Cotyledonary leaf explants were then transferred to eight media compositions of half strength MS medium with varying IAA and BAP concentrations in the culture test tubes.

  • The present investigation was under taken with the objectives to estimate genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for yield and yield contributing components of cucumber. The experimental materials for this investigation were fourteen genotypes of cucumber consisting of parthenocarpic, gynoecious and monecious germplasms crossed in line × tester mating design produced thirty three hybrids (F1). Thirty three F1 crosses along with their parents were evaluated in two environments viz.

  • The development of fruits without fertilization is known as parthenocarpy. Parthenocarpy improves the fruit quality, processing attributes, production and productivity of vegetable crops like tomato, cucumber, watermelon etc. Absence of seeds can enhances the shelf life of the fruits, allowing a better conservation, fruit set in adverse climatic conditions, early and offseason production of vegetable crops. Therefore, it is important to ensure yield stability regardless of environmental conditions.

  • Green house is a polyhouse or plastic house covered with polythene sheet. It is light in weight, easy to handle and cheaper in cost, resistant to hail, frost, over heating as well as very suitable for off-season vegetables cultivation. Vegetable growers can substantially increase their income by cultivation of vegetable under protected condition during off season as the vegetables produced during their normal season generally they do not found good returns due to availability of these vegetables in the market.

  • Fifteen gynoecious parthenocarpic hybrids hybrids/lines of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) were evaluated under polyhouse (fifty percent shade/naturally ventilated) conditions for yield and quality. The genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variations were highest for nodal position of first female flower, number fruits, fruit weight and fruit yield per plant which indicates maximum variability is existing in the genotypes. High genetic advance as per cent mean was observed for most of the characters, indicating that these characters are controlled by additive gene action.

  • The present investigation was conducted 2017-18 and 2018-19 carried out at Vegetable Research Farm SHUATS, Prayagraj, Allahabad U.P. with three replications. In this way the experiments were comprising of total twenty seven treatment combinations of three cultivars namely, Pant Parthenocarpic Cucumber -2 (V1)' Pant Parthenocarpic Cucumber -3 (V2) and Hilton (V3 ); three plant geometry i.e. 60 x 30 cm (P1 ), 60 x 40 cm (P2 ) and 60 x 50 cm (P3 ) and three NPK, fertilizers doses like, 20:10:22 Kg/1000m2 (D1), 25:15:27 Kg/1000m2 (D2) and 30:20:32 Kg/1000m2 (D3).
