Path coefficient analysis in chickpea
-
The present research consists of the 40 genotypes of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) was carried out at the Department of the Genetics and Plant Breeding, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj during Rabi 2018-19 in Randomized Block Design with three replications with an aim to determine genetic variability, correlation, direct and indirect relationship between yield and its component characters.

The present investigation was carried out for, Correlation studies and Path Coefficient Analysis in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). Correlation studies showed that the traits viz. harvest index, number of pods per plant, 100 seed weight, number of seeds per pod and plant height exhibited positive and highly significant genotypic correlation with seed yield.

The present investigation entitled, Phenotypic and Genotypic path coefficient analysis Studies in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Badnapur, Dist- Jalna (VNMKV, Parbhani) ( M.S.) during Rabi season of 2019-20. The exploration of genetically variable accession or genotypes is the key source of germplasm conservation and potential breeding material for the future use. The highly divergence group of cultivars provides an opportunity to breeders for developing superior and new varieties considering their quality traits for direct commercial utilization.

Correlation and Path coefficient analysis were used to determine the relationship among yield and yield components done with 12 chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) genotypes. The experiment was designed in Randomized Block Design with four replication. Biological yield, number of pods per plant, seed index and harvest index had shown positive significant correlation with the seed yield per plant. The positive direct effect on seed yield was revealed by biological yield followed by seed index.

An experiment was conducted during Rabi, 2016-17 at Pulses Research farm, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour (Bhagalpur), Bihar to study the correlation and path analysis for grain yield and its component characters in thirty six desi chickpea genotypes. The correlation study revealed that grain yield per plant was found significantly and positively correlated with number of primary branches, number of secondary branches, biological yield, harvest index, 100 seed weight and days to maturity, under normal sown condition.

Hundred germplasm lines of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) were grown in RBD with two replications under rain fed season at College of Agriculture, Latur. The maximum genotypic coefficient of variation was noticed for seed yield per plant (32.76%), number of secondary branches (32.6%), test weight (31.28%), total number of seed per plant (28.68%) and number of pods per plant (25.7%).

The present investigation was carried out for, “Correlation and Path Coefficient Analysis of Yield and Yield Components in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)”. Correlation studies showed that the traits viz. harvest index, number of pods per plant, number of secondary branches per plant, days to 50% flowering, plant height, days to maturity, number of primary branches per plant and number of seeds per pod exhibited positive and highly significant genotypic correlation with seed yield. This indicates that the simultaneous improvement of these characters through selection.
