Breast cancer is a malignant tumour that seriously threatens women’s life and health and exhibits high inter-individual heterogeneity, emphasising the need for more in-depth research on its pathogenesis. While internal 7-methylguanosine (m7G) modifications affect RNA processing and function and are believed to be involved in human diseases, little is currently known about the role of m7G modification in breast cancer.

Despite recent advances in research, there are still critical lacunae in our basic understanding of the cause, pathogenesis, and natural history of many cancers, especially heterogeneity in patient response to drugs and mediators in the transition from malignant to invasive phenotypes.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a specifc subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is highly invasive and confined to the central nervous system (CNS). The vast majority of PCNSLs are diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCLs). PCNSL is a highly heterogeneous disease, and its pathogenesis has not yet been fully elucidated.

Heterogeneity in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has led to many statistically negative clinical trials. Etiology is considered an important source of pathogenesis heterogeneity in ARDS but previous studies have usually adopted a dichotomous classifcation, such as pulmonary versus extrapulmonary ARDS, to evaluate it. Etiology-associated heterogeneity in ARDS remains poorly described.

Chiari malformation type I (CMI) is a brain malformation that is characterized by herniation of the cerebellum into the spinal canal. Chiari malformation type I is highly heterogeneous; therefore, an accurate explanation of the pathogenesis of the disease is often not possible. Although some studies showed the role of genetics in CMI, the involvement of genetic variations in CMI pathogenesis has not been thoroughly elucidated. Therefore, in the current study we aim to reveal CMI-associated genomic variations in familial cases.

Pro-inflammatory cytokines are directly implicated in the pathogenesis of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Variable clinical response to cytokine targeted therapies as TNFalpha and IL-6, strongly highlights the heterogeneity of inflammatory process in RA.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is combination of progressive lung diseases. The diagnosis of COPD is generally based on the pulmonary function testing, however, difficulties underlie in prognosis of smokers or early stage of COPD patients due to the complexity and heterogeneity of the pathogenesis.

Cholangiocarcinomas are a heterogeneous group of malignancies arising from a number of cells of origin along the biliary tree. Although most cases in Western countries are sporadic, large population-based studies have identified a number of risk factors.

T-cell lymphomas are a heterogeneous group of cancers with different pathogenesis and poor prognosis. Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are epigenetic modifiers that modulate many key biological processes. In recent years, HDACs have been fully investigated for their roles and potential as drug targets in T-cell lymphomas.

This paper considers the problem of policy evaluation in a modern society with heterogeneous agents and diverse groups with conflicting interests. Several different approaches to the policy evaluation problem are compared including the approach adopted in modern welfare economics, the classical representative agent approach adopted in macroecononomics and the microeconomic treatment effect approach. A new approach to the policyevaluationproblemis developed and applied that combines and extends the best features of these earlier approaches.

Uterine myomas are the most common benign tumors in women, affecting 20%–50% of reproductive age population. Myomas cause significant morbidity and are the single most common indication for hysterectomy in the United States, representing a major personal and public health concern worldwide. Recent research on the cellular and molecular biology of myomas has enabled us to understand better the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of this tumor, but more remains to be done.

Semantic Web technologies enable the integration of heterogeneous data using expli- cit semantics, the expression of rich and well-defined models for data aggregation, and the application of logic to gain new knowledge from the raw data [12]. Semantic tech- nologies can be used to encode metadata such as provenance, i.e. the original source where the data came from and how it was generated [13][14]. There are four main Semantic Web standards for knowledge representation: Resource Description Frame- work(RDF),RDFSchema(RDFS),WebOntologyLanguage(OWL),andSPARQL query language.

Complex Genetic Disorders The expression of many common diseases such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, asthma, psychiatric disorders, and certain cancers is determined by a combination of genetic background, environmental factors, and lifestyle. A trait is called polygenic if multiple genes contribute to the phenotype or multifactorial if multiple genes are assumed to interact with environmental factors. Genetic models for these complex traits need to account for genetic heterogeneity and interactions with other genes and the environment.
