Resistance to pathogenic bacteria may lead to serious health problems. Scientists found that discovering novel antimicrobial compounds is possible by exploring rarely investigated environments. Therefore, this work focused on isolating and identifying some fungal strains collected from the Co To sea. We tested whether such strains can produce compounds with vital activities, including antibacterial and antifungal. The antimicrobial activity of the marine fungi crude extracts was performed by the Bioassay method in a 96-well tray.

This study aimed to isolate and identify marine fungi from Bai Tu Long Bay and assess their antimicrobial potential. We successfully isolated twenty strains of marine-derived fungi. The crude extracts from these fungi were tested against pathogenic microorganisms. All twenty strains exhibit some degree of growth inhibition against the tested microorganisms.

The success of the clinical use of sequencing based tests (from single gene to genomes) depends on the accuracy and consistency of variant interpretation. Aiming to improve the interpretation process through practice guidelines, the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) and the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) have published standards and guidelines for the interpretation of sequence variants.

Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of body fluids is an emerging approach to identify occult pathogens in undiagnosed patients. We hypothesized that metagenomic testing can be simultaneously used to detect malignant neoplasms in addition to infectious pathogens.

Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) as a screening method for common chromosomal abnormalities such as trisomy 21, 18, and 13 has been widely adopted. In the last five years, the possibility of NIPT to detect common single-gene disorders (SGD) due to de novo mutations or paternal inherited had been reported worldwide.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) based population screening holds great promise for disease prevention and earlier diagnosis, but the costs associated with screening millions of humans remain prohibitive. New methods for population genetic testing that lower the costs of NGS without compromising diagnostic power are needed.

Many families and individuals do not meet criteria for a known hereditary cancer syndrome but display unusual clusters of cancers. These families may carry pathogenic variants in cancer predisposition genes and be at higher risk for developing cancer.

In ebook "Microbial plant pathogens-detection and disease diagnosis: Viral and viroid pathogens, Volume 3" nucleic acid-based techniques have been demonstrated to be the most reliable and sensitive tests for detection, identification and differentiation of viruses and viroids present in plants and planting materials. Inclusion of numerous protocols in appropriate chapters as appendix is a unique feature of this volume.

The aim of this project was to select highly sensitive and specific aptamer capable of detecting Fusarium graminearum (Fg) and F. pseudograminearum (Fp) species. The aptamer-based testing allows early detection of fungal infection in the field. Fungi are known to change their activity and may often undergo genetic changes. The classic "gene for gene" theory explains the relationship between host plant cultivars and fungal pathogenic races.

In this study, the synthesis of dimeric disulfide-Schiff bases was carried out using two methods. The structures of the obtained Schiff bases were elucidated by various spectroscopic methods as well as elemental analysis. The Schiff base derivative compounds (3a-6) were screened for in vitro antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant microorganisms using microdilution method. All the tested compounds showed varying inhibition zones against the pathogens.

In this study, a new formulation based on the combination of two active constituents (zinc pyrithione and triclosan) and an inactive component (carboxymethyl cellulose polymer) was optimized for seed coating to control seed-borne pathogens. According to the in vitro antimicrobial tests, the combination of zinc pyrithione and triclosan showed a broader spectrum of phytopathogenic bacteria and fungi control.
