  • MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are highly conserved class of short endogenous non-coding small RNA molecules of about 18–22 nucleotide in length. MicroRNAs negatively regulate the gene expression by degrading target mRNA. In the present study, comparative genomic based approach was used to identify and characterize new conserved microRNAs in “orphan legume crop” pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan L.) using expressed sequence tags (ESTs) by in silico method. A total of 4,621 unique previously reported microRNAs were used for homology search in 25,576 ESTs of pigeon pea for identifying conserved miRNAs.

  • Field experiments were laid out in split-plot design with three modes of production (organic, integrated and inorganic) in main plots and four rice-based cropping systems [basmati rice-vegetable pea + coriander (CS1), basmati rice-chickpea + coriander (CS2), basmati rice-potato (CS3) and basmati rice-wheat (CS4)] in sub-plots with three replications in 2016 and 2017. Results revealed that organic mode of production resulted in higher growth and yield of basmati rice than inorganic mode of production during 13th and 14th year of the experimentation.

  • Power Operated Pea Sheller machine was developed by us considering the need of rural farmers. There are three types of shelling methods are available such as roller method, tumbler method and shearing method but out of this we selected roller method because it is oldest patented method and the gap between roller can be easily adjusted by screw mechanism. Developed machine is based on the principle of friction generated by the rubbing of pea pods between the two rollers. Machine fabricated by using the low cost material available in market.

  • A B S T R A C T Introduction Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is the 3rd largest produced food legume in the world after common bean and field pea and is widely grown in the semi-arid regions (Gaur et al., 2012). It is important pulse crop in India and contributing about~70% of the global chickpea production (FAOSTAT, 2012). It has excellent nutrition value in terms of human dietary protein. In addition to having high protein content (20-22%) (McIntosh and Topping 2000; Charles et al., 2002).

  • The present investigation aimed to study genetic divergence and clustering pattern of 37super-early pigeon pea genotypes. Analysis of variance and hierarchical cluster analysis of tocher’s method revealed significant differences among the genotypes for all the traits under study. Based on genetic distance (D2 value), the 37 genotypes were grouped into 9 distinctive clusters, of which cluster I and II formed the largest clusters with 10 genotypes in each. Among all the characters understudy, leaf area index(LAI) at 60 DAS contributed more to the divergence followed by leaf area (17.
