  • Drought is one of the major environmental stresses resulting in a huge reduction in crop growth and biomass production. Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) has excellent drought tolerance, and it could be used as a model plant to study drought resistance.

  • Pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.)R.Br.] one of the common millets grown as a nutrient-rich food source for human and as a fodder crop for livestock. Among the several diseases, the blast caused by Pyricularia grisea (Cooke) Sacc. has emerged as a serious disease affecting both forage and grain production in pearl millet resulting economic loss.Survey was carried out in major pearl millet growing districts of Madhya Pradesh viz., Morena, Bhind, Gwalior, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Datia, jhabua, Alirajpur presented in Table 7 to find out the incidence of Blast during July to nov.

  • Pearlmillet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) is largely grown for grain and fodder purpose under those situations where other crops generally fail. Pearlmillet as a food crop is limited to the developing countries in Asia, and particularly in Africa and ranked sixth in the world followed by rice, wheat, maize, barley and sorghum (Anonymous, 2010-11).

  • A set of 27 pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] ) hybrids that newly developed using A1 cytoplasmic male-sterile lines, were evaluated over three (two wet and one dry) crop seasons (hereafter refer to as environments) in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two replications to predict genotype by environment (G × E) interaction for grain yield and its component traits, and to identify the high yielding stable hybrids through AMMI and cluster analysis method for possible adaption. Analysis of variance showed significant genetic variation for all studied traits exists.

  • A study was undertaken to evaluate the efficiency of phosphatic nano fertilizer under pot culture trail. The experiment was conducted during the summer 2017 to know the effect of different levels of nano and chemical phosphatic fertilizer on NPK nutrient (Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) content and uptake by pearl millet crop in Vertic Ustocrepts medium black calcareous soil. The experiment was containing control with seven different treatments.

  • Genetics of quality parameters and their associations with grain yield and its component traits have a direct bearing on devising effective strategies for breeding biofortified crop cultivars. A newly developed 54 hybrids of pearl millet showed large genetic variability for yield and nutritional traits. Correlation studies revealed that single plant yield has positive significant correlation with the agronomic traits viz., plant height, number of productive tillers, test weight, single head grain weight and quality traits viz.

  • Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) is an important food and forage crop. It is locally known as bajra, combo, sajja, bari, ganti or kambam. Leaf spot disease of pearl millet is a common foliar disease caused by Drechslera setariae. A laboratory experiment was conducted to study the antifungal activity of four biocontrol agents viz., Trichoderma harzianum, Trichoderma viride, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis against Drechslera setariae employing dual culture technique. All the biocontrol agents checked the growth of the Drechslera setariae as compared to control.

  • Micronutrient malnutrition resulting from the dietary deficiency of important minerals such as Iron (Fe), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu) and Manganese (Mn) in the staple food crops like pearl millet leads to ubiquitous food-related health problems. In context to this present investigation was undertaken to study the phenotypic diversity among 48 maintainer (B) and restorer lines (R) of pearl millet genotypes for grain micronutrients concentration, yield and agro-morphological traits using multivariate approach.

  • Interspecific hybrids between cultivars of pearl millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.] with 2n = 2x = 14 and its wild relative Napier Grass [Pennisetum purpureum (K.) Schum] with 2n = 4x = 28, which have multicut behaviour, perennial nature, high biomass and drought tolerance traits for crop improvement, were obtained by cross hybridization. Twenty hybrid progenies were obtained and then examined based on the morphological traits. Nine of them were confirmed to be true interspecific hybrids.
