Pacific white shrimp, Penaeus vannamei is the most extensively farmed crustacean species in the world as well India. In India, Andhra Pradesh state is occupying first place in culture production of vannamei shrimp. In recent years, P. vannamei faming in Andhra Pradesh is being encountered with multiple diseases such as running mortality syndrome (RMS), white spot syndrome virus (WSSV), white faeces/ white gut syndrome and severe retarded growth due a microsporedian, Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) infection causing catastrophic influence on economy. Besides these diseases, cultured P.

Shrimp culture is the most lucrative aquaculture sector in Asia-Pacific region. Recently, shrimp farms in India have been affected by the microsporidian parasite, Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) associated with retarded growth without other clinical signs, causing significant economic losses to the shrimp industry. The present study was carried out to investigate the incidence of EHP in Penaeus vannamei farms of Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, and to identify the carriers of EHP and the role of management in reducing the incidence of EHP in ponds.

Disease is one of the major factors affecting the development and sustainability of aquaculture. White spot disease caused by white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) results in severe production and economic losses to the shrimp farming industry worldwide. Recently, Hepatopancreatic microsporidiosis caused by Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) a microsporidian parasite has been reported to cause severe growth retardation and losses in commercial Penaeus vannamei farming. In the present study, we report the prevalence of white spot syndrome virus and hepatopancreatic microsporidiosis in the P.
