The pod yield was significantly and positively correlated with pod weight, pod girth, pericarp thickness, seed weight per pod, number of pods per plant and weight of 100 seeds. The path coefficient analysis using the phenotypic correlation coefficient among the pair of characters showed that number of pods per plant had the highest positive direct effect on yield. At last it could be concluded that PSM-3 and PSM5 are best performing varieties for this region according to green pod yield.

Performance of different hybrids and varieties of redgram under central dry zone of Karnataka, India
Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan L.) is an important multipurpose pulse legume in the tropics and subtropics. The global production of pigeon pea is 4.32 million tonnes from an area of 5.32 m ha with a productivity of 813.2 kg/ha. India is the largest producer and consumer of pigeonpea with an area of 3.86 m ha followed by Myanmar. In spite of huge demand and high price the yield barrier is not broken. To overcome the problem of low productivity hybrid technology or the use of hybrids is preferred; which is one of the components to increase the yield.

In total of 113 genotypes including three check varieties, a wide range of variability for different characters had been observed and comparison of means of genotypes using least significant differences, indicated existence of very high degree of variability for all the characters in the germplasm collection. The following five genotypes exhibited high mean performance for seed yield/plant were IP-2K-84, EC-356166, HUDP-27, DMR-15, IPFD2-6.

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2016-17to identify optimum meteorological week for sowing of pigeonpea. The treatments were four sowing dates (26th MW-30 June, 28th MW-15 June, 31th MW-30 July and 33th MW-15 August and three varieties (Asha (ICPL87119), PKV-TARA, BSMR-736) with three replications and twelve treatment combinations were tested in Factorial Randomized Block Design. The results revealed that the Pigeonpea variety PKV-TARA recorded significantly higher grain (2182 kg ha-1 ).

A cluster demonstration of improved package of practice of chickpea along with improved variety was conducted in the Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh during rabi 2015-16. Chickpea varieties JG 63, JG 130 and JG 315 (control) were demonstrated. Highest yield was obtained in chickpea variety JG 63 (17.57q /ha) followed by JG 130 (15.85 q/ha) and JG 315 (13.6 q/ha). The technology gap in case of JG 63 was the lowest (493 kg/ha) compared to that of JG 130 (665 kg/ha) and JG 315 (890 kg/ha).
