This research focuses on Fibre Cement Felts (FCF), which is a non-woven textile substrate acting as a conveyor belt for the manufacturing of Fibre Cement Sheets (FCS). Fibre Cement Felts are a valued component required in the manufacturing process of Fibre Cement Sheets, used in construction for today’s building industry. Identifying the key factors that most influence FCF will assist in understanding of the relationship between fibre diameters, carded web, and mechanical bonding.

Virtual Pervious Concrete: Microstructure, Percolation, and Permeability presents various virtual pervious concrete microstructural percolation characteristics and computed transport properties to those of real world pervious concretes. Of the various virtual pervious concretes explored in th is study, one based on a correlation filter three dimensional reconstruction algorithm clearly provides a void structure closest to that achieved in real pervious concrete.

2-Aminoethoxydiphenyl Borate (2-APB) has been extensively used recently as a membrane permeable modulator of inositol-1,4,5-trisphosphate-sensitive Ca2+ channels and store-operated Ca2+ entry. Here, we report that 2-APB is also an inhibitor of sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ATPase (SERCA) Ca2+ pumps, and additionally increases ion leakage across the phospholipid bilayer. Therefore, we advise caution in the interpretation of results when used in Ca2+ signalling experiments.

Hybridomas are cells that have been engineered to produce a desired antibody in large amounts. To produce monoclonal antibodies, Bcells are removed from the spleen of an animal that has been challenged with the relevant antigen. These B-cells are then fused with myeloma tumor cells that can grow indefinitely in culture (myeloma is a B-cell cancer). This fusion is performed by making the cell membranes more permeable. The fused hybrid cells (called hybridomas), being cancer cells, will multiply rapidly and indefinitely and will produce large amounts of the desired antibodies.

When studiedin vitro, mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) is associated with an increase in mitochondrial per-meability to solutes up to 1500 Da in mass and a loss of electrical potential difference across the inner mitochondrial membrane (Dwmit). The MPT has been implicated as being important in cellular calcium homeostasis, autophagy and cell death via necrosis and apoptosis.

Wehave examined the effectsof three ring-sizeanalogsof the cyclicb-sheet antimicrobial peptidegramicidinS (GS) on the thermotropic phase behavior and permeability of phos-pholipid model membranes and on the growth of the cell wall-less Gram-positive bacteriaAcholeplasma laidlawiiB. These three analogs have ring sizes of 10 (GS10), 12 (GS12) or 14 (GS14) amino acids, respectively.

To examine whether valinomycin induces a mitochondrial permeability transition (PT), we investigated its effects on mitochondrial functions under various conditions. The acceleration of mitochondrial respiration and swelling, induced by valinomycin, were found to be insensitive to inhibitors of the ordinary PT, indicating that valinomycin does not induce the ordinary PT. Results of experiments usingmitochondria isolated fromtransgenicmice expressing human bcl-2 also supported this conclusion.

Previous results showed that mRNA encoding a putative aquaporin (AQP) (GenBankaccession number AF218314) is present in the tracheolar cells associated with female Aedes aegyptiMalpighian tubules. In this study, immuno-histochemistry detected the protein,AeaAQP, also in tra-cheolar cells, suggesting its involvement in water movement in the respiratory system. When expressed in Xenopus oocytes,AeaAQP increased the osmotic water permeability from15·10 )6 to 150 ·10 )6 mÆs )1 , whichwas inhibited by mercury ions. No permeability to glycerol or other solute was observed....

Fromin vivo models of stroke it is known that ischemia⁄reperfusion indu-ces oxidative stress that is accompanied by deterioration of brain mito-chondria. Previously, we reported that the increase in Ca 2+ induces functional breakdown and morphological disintegration in brain mitochon-dria subjected to hypoxia⁄reoxygenation (H⁄R). Protection by ADP indica-ted the involvement of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore in the mechanism of membrane permeabilization.

The high water permeability of certain biological membranes is due to the presence of aquaporin water channel proteins. AQP1 was discovered in human red cells. AQP1 has been thoroughly characterized biophysically, and the atomic structure of AQP1 has been elucidated. Ten homologs have been identified in humans. These are selectively permeated by water (aquaporins) or water plus glycerol (aquaglyceroporins). The sites of expres-sion predict the clinical phenotypes in humans. Individuals lack-ing Colton blood group antigens have mutations in the AQP1 gene. ...

Injury of liver by ischaemia crucially involves mitochondrial damage. The role of Ca 2+ in mitochondrial damage is still unclear. We investigated the effect of low micromolar Ca 2+ concentrations on respiration, membrane permeability, and antioxidative defence in liver mitochondria exposed to hypoxia⁄reoxygenation. Hypoxia⁄reoxygenation caused decrease in state 3 respiration and in the respiratory control ratio.

Báo cáo khoa học: The mitochondrial permeability transition from in vitro artifact to disease target
The mitochondrial permeability transition pore is a high conductance chan-nel whose opening leads to an increase of mitochondrial inner membrane permeability to solutes with molecular masses up to1500 Da. In this review we trace the rise of the permeability transition pore from the status ofin vitro artifact to that of effector mechanism of cell death.

The notion that it takes two to tango is certainly true for leukocyte trans-endothelial migration. A growing pallet of leukocyte adhesion-induced signaling events in endothelial cells have been identified, mediating both short-term (i.e. permeability) as well as long-term (i.e. regulation of tran-scription) effects.
