Metaldehyde is a toxic pesticide used mainly as a molluscicide, responsible for intoxication and deaths in both humans and animals. Accidental exposure to metaldehyde in dogs is considered rare, but severe. Data concerning clinical and veterinary forensic toxicology are largely incomplete, especially regarding case reports in dogs.

The herbicide dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is one of the most widely used crop spraying products in the world. Some pesticides induce the degranulation of mast cells and increase allergic responses. This is the first study to evaluate the damage to the oral mucosa after an experimental simulation of environmental inhalation exposure to the 2,4-D herbicide.

This study investigates the pesticides atrazine, chlorpyrifos, and dieldrin for endocrine disrupting, phenotypic, and neurobehavioral effects. Zebrafish embryos were exposed to various environmentally relevant concentrations of pesticides during two critical windows, 0-5 days post fertilization (dpf) throughout embryogenesis and 4- 5 dpf at early larval development.

The efficacy of both botanical pesticides and entomopathogenic nematodes (EPN) is largely dose-dependent and driven by environmental conditions. Combination of the EPNs and botanicals may enhance their efficacy; thus, we investigated the compatibility of the medicinal plants Alepidea amatymbica and Elephantorrhiza elephantina with five locally isolated EPN strains, three Steinernema (S. khoisanae, S. biddulphi and S. innovationi) and two Heterorhabditis (H. bacteriophora and Heterorhabditis sp. SGI 244).

The organophosphate target enzyme paraoxonase-1 (PON1) has been extensively studied in toxicology. Pesticides are organophosphate compounds that are commonly used in agriculture. They are also used as nerve gases, such as sarin and soman. Therefore, the effects of these compounds on enzymatic activity are well known. In the present study, we investigated the in vitro effects of fenoxaprop-p-ethyl, lambda cyhalothrin, imidacloprid, and dichlorvos pesticides on sheep liver microsomal PON1.

Resistance of pest insect species to insecticides, including B. thuringiensis (Bt) pesticidal proteins expressed by transgenic plants, is a threat to global food security. Despite the western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera, being a major pest of maize and having populations showing increasing levels of resistance to hybrids expressing Bt pesticidal proteins, the cell mechanisms leading to mortality are not fully understood.

Hydrazine (N2H4) is an important and commonly used chemical reagent for the preparation of textile dyes, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and so on. Despite its widespread industrial applications, hydrazine is highly toxic and exposure to this chemical can cause many symptoms and severe damage to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system. As a consequence, many efforts have been devoted to the development of fluorescent probes for the selective sensing and/or imaging of N2H4.

Queen failure is a persistent problem in beekeeping operations, but in the absence of overt symptoms it is often difficult, if not impossible, to ascertain the root cause. Stressors like heat-shock, cold-shock, and sublethal pesticide exposure can reduce stored sperm viability and lead to cryptic queen failure.

This study was carried out to determine non-ionic infrared waves effect to control important stored insects as an alternative technique which reduces the chemical pesticide usage. The insect Ephestia cautella was used as a sample of store insects. Eggs, larvae, pupa and adults were exposed to different time (15, 30 and 60second) at 40 °C. Results also showed that infrared waves (IR) had ability to kill different stages of E. cautella. And this effect increased by increasing of exposure period.

Individuals who live in rural areas are at greater risk for brain cancer, and pesticide exposure may contribute to this increased risk. The aims of this research were to analyze the mortality trends and to estimate the age-period-cohort effects on mortality rates from brain cancer in two regions in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The incidence of testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT), the most common cancer in men aged 15 to 45 years, has doubled over the last 30 years in developed countries. Reasons remain unclear but a role of environmental factors, especially during critical periods of development, is strongly suspected.

Agricultural activities as well as exposure to pesticides could have many adverse effects on health status and reproductive outcomes especially in reproductive aged greenhouse workers. The present study aimed to compare the general and reproductive health outcomes between female greenhouse workers and housewives.

The one-day-old O. latipes embryos is harvested and exposed to different concentrations of o, p`-DDT 0.04; 0.08; 0.12; 0.16; 0.2; 0.24; 0.28 and 0 µg/l (the control sample is not supplemented with o, p`-DDT) for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours. After 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours, the results showed that LC50 value is gradually decreased, respectively 0.1013; 0.0772; 0.0486 and 0.0359 µg/l. The difference between LC50 values depends on the exposure concentration and exposure time. The results showed that the mortality rates of Medaka O.

The purpose of this document is to provide guidance on preventing the risk of pesticides by reducing exposure with effective personal protection, with particular attention to personal protective equipment (PPE). First, it provides technical information on personal protection and on the selection and use of PPE. Secondly, in line with the Code of Conduct, it addresses various policy issues and recommends measures to improve personal protection and specifically the use and availability of adequate- quality, affordable PPE.

Repeated exposure to agro-chemical pesticides may increases the pesticide accumulation in food chain and adversely affect on human and environment. Hence, part of farming community shifting from chemical inputs to bio-inputs. In this regard, this study was conducted to know the extent of awareness, usage pattern, product differentiation, factors affecting and purchase pattern of bio-pesticides in Chitradurga and Davanagere districts in Karnataka state. The data pertaining to this study was collected with the help of pre-tested questionnaire during the agricultural year 2018.

The study aimed to explore the effects of exposure to pesticides on the reproductive health and liver function of females participating in agricultural work. Blood samples were obtained from the thirty-five females (out of one hundred females of reproductive age) who were willing to donate blood. Fifty females matched for age and socio economic status were recruited as a control group to compare levels of hormones (estradiol, progesterone and follicle stimulating hormone), liver enzymes alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST).

This study estimates the impact of the VietGAP program on the health of farmers producing vegetables in Thua Thien Hue province. By employing the propensity score matching (PSM) method, we found that the VietGAP program has a significant impact on farmers’ health. Specifically, the program reduces farmers’ health problems due to pesticide exposure by 15.6 %, 22.9 %, 25.5 %, and 23.6 % in four types of matching.

These practices expose the farmers, their animals and the environment to pesticide poisoning. Nevertheless, >50% of these respondents were aware of the negative effects pesticides are likely to cause to humans, animals and environment. Therefore, in order to minimize pesticide exposure and toxicity, training and awareness campaigns on pesticides use, particularly pesticide disposal should be rolled out to all the coffee growing agro-ecologies of Uganda.
