Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) are a summarization of an individual’s genetic risk for a disease or trait. These scores are being generated in research and commercial settings to study how they may be used to guide healthcare decisions. PRSs should be updated as genetic knowledgebases improve; however, no guidelines exist for their generation or updating.

Blood plasma proteins play an important role in immune defense against pathogens, including cytokine signaling, the complement system, and the acute-phase response. Recent large-scale studies have reported genetic (i.e., protein quantitative trait loci, pQTLs) and non-genetic factors, such as age and sex, as major determinants to inter-individual variability in immune response variation.

The existence of moderate to high levels of linkage disequilibrium (LD) between genetic markers and quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting traits of interest is fundamental for the success of genome-wide association (GWAS) and genomic selection (GS) studies. Knowledge about the extent and the pattern of LD in livestock populations is essential to determine the density of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) required for accurate GWAS and GS.

Correlated genetic response in survival to selection for high growth has not been reported in giant freshwater prawn (GFP) (Macrobrachium rosenbergii). The main aim of this study was to measure genetic changes and estimate heritability for this character (survival rate) and its genetic associations with body traits in a GFP population selected over eight generations from 2008 to 2015.

Genomic selection and genomic wide association studies are widely used methods that aim to exploit the linkage disequilibrium (LD) between markers and quantitative trait loci (QTL). Securing a sufficiently large set of genotypes and phenotypes can be a limiting factor that may be overcome by combining data from multiple breeds or using crossbred information.

The experiment was a 2x3 factorial design. The first factor was the duck’s growing periods with split phases (5-8 weeks old and 9-12 weeks old) and whole phase (5-12 weeks old). The second factor was the sex of birds, with three treatments, male birds, female birds and balanced for sex.

The total number of hemocytes and their morphological characteristics were analyzed in Helix pomatia Linnaeus, 1758, by light microscopy during different phases of hibernation. Three types of hemocytes were identified: hyalinocytes, agranulocytes, and granulocytes. Total number of hemocytes decreased significantly during hibernation. Most intensive changes in cell size, morphology, and appearance of special structures in granulocytes happened during the hibernation period itself.

Bread wheat is one of the most important crops for the human diet, but the increasing soil salinization is causing yield reductions worldwide. Improving salt stress tolerance in wheat requires the elucidation of the mechanistic basis of plant response to this abiotic stress factor.

The sensitivity of rice to high temperature varies with growth phase, an increase in day/night temperature and genotype (Yoshida et al., 1981). Planning and execution of any breeding program for improvement on quantitative traits depends on magnitude of genetic variability.

The nonparametric trend test (NPT) is well suitable for identifying the genetic variants associated with quantitative traits when the trait values do not satisfy the normal distribution assumption. If the genetic model, defined according to the mode of inheritance, is known, the NPT derived under the given genetic model is optimal. However, in practice, the genetic model is often unknown beforehand.

With the plummeting cost of the next-generation sequencing technologies, high-density genetic linkage maps could be constructed in a forest hybrid F1 population. However, based on such genetic maps, quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping cannot be directly conducted with traditional statistical methods or tools because the linkage phase and segregation pattern of molecular markers are not always fixed as in inbred lines.

Thirteen rabi sorghum genotypes were studied for root traits in rabi 2013-14 at All India Sorghum Improvement Project, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri in Phule Root Box Structure under receding soil moisture. The genotypes were sown on exclusively receding soil moisture under rainout shelter. The results of soil moisture status revealed that the soil moisture gradually decreased from sowing till the harvest of crop. The moisture depletion was less at vegetative phase as compared to reproductive phase. The sharp decrease with increasing depth was observed at reproductive phase.

Combining ability analysis for yield and its component under late sown condition in bread wheat involved ten diverse parents and their 45 F1s and their F2s indicated significance differences among the parents for gca and crosses for sca for all characters under studied. The GCA and SCA components of variances in both generations showed significant for all traits indicating additive and non additive gene action controlled the pattern of inheritance for the concern traits over the both generations.

Rich genetic potential with wide spectrum of genetic variability is a key factor behind a successful breeding programme. New recombinants can be generated through crossing between highly diverse parents. Genetically diverse 281 RILs and their parents were grown in randomized block design in two replications under rainfed and irrigated conditions during rabi 2011-12 and 2012-13. Categorization of RILs was done by using standard statistical procedure based on qualitative and quantitative traits. RILs were evaluated for traits name.

Sorghum genotypes used for grain production in temperate regions are photoperiod insensitive and flower early avoiding adverse environments during the reproductive phase. In contrast, energy sorghum hybrids are highly photoperiod sensitive with extended vegetative phases in long days, resulting in enhanced biomass accumulation.

Surveys were undertaken for characterization and evaluation of genetic diversity of Jamun (Syzygium cumini L.) of seedling origin for different horticultural traits during 2013 and 2014 in the Jamun growing areas of Jammu sub-tropical areas. Investigations were undertaken during the entire reproductive phase to assess the distribution, range and to record the range of genetic variability of different horticultural traits on the selected forty trees. Mature fruits were harvested and analyzed for different fruit characteristics.

A feeding trial of 12 weeks duration was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of pudina leaf powder supplementation on egg quality traits in laying hens. A total number of 120 White leghorn laying hens of 36 weeks old were randomly assigned to 4 treatment groups (T1, T2, T3 and T4) with 6 replicates of 5 birds each. The basal diet was supplemented with pudina leaf powder containing 0, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 g/ kg in dietary treatment groups respectively.
