Biofertilizers play a significant role in fixing atmospheric nitrogen, production of growth promoting substances and making phosphorous available to the plants hence the application of biofertilizers is very essential to the plant (Upadhayay et al., 1999).

Rhizospheric microbes have immense potentiality to synthesize and release various compounds, that are regulating plant growth as well as physical and chemical texture of the soil. In this small piece of research, we evaluated the plant growth promoting activity of two different carriers such as charcoal and talc based formulation of Bacillus species. It was observed that, the bio-inoculants were able to enhance the organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium in soil, there by promoting growth of test crop plants such as mung bean (Vigna radiata L.) and rice (Oryza satiava L.).

Three species of Aspergillus (A. niger, A. flavus, A. terreus) were found to be effective in phosphorous solubilization in order to utilize these species for large scale production of bioformulation, the basic studies on effect of various carbon and nitrogen sources on growth and sporulation was done. Richard’s broth was used as basal medium to study the influence of various carbon and nitrogen sources.

Phosphorous (P), an essential nutrient element is the second most important element after nitrogen. It is unavailable to plants because in the soil it is mostly present in the fixed form. Soil bacteria having the phosphate solubilizing capacity are called as Phosphate Solubilising Bacteria (PSB). They convert the insoluble phosphate into soluble form through the production of organic acids and make it available for plant uptake and nutrition. They are also useful as biofertilizers as they belong to the plant growth promoting Rhizobacteria.

Field experiments were carried out during Kharif seasons of 2013-14 and 2014-15 at the Agricultural Research Farm, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (U.P.) to study the effect of PGPR and Zinc enriched FYM on yield and growth attributes of rice at different levels of phosphors in an Inceptisol of Varanasi. The treatments consisted five levels of enriched FYM (M0= No FYM, M1= only FYM, M2= PGPR enriched FYM, M3= PGPR and Zn @ 2.5 kg ha-1 enriched FYM and M4= PGPR and Zn @ 5.0 kg ha-1 enriched FYM) and four levels of phosphors (0, 20, 40 and 60 kg P2O5 ha-1 ).

Phosphorous is one of the most abundant metallic element found in the earth’s crust and present in soils in both organic and inorganic forms. Though it is present in high concentration, only 0.1% of the total P is available to plant because of poor solubility and its fixation in soil with other metallic elements in the soil such as Ca, Al, Fe to form calcium phosphate, aluminum phosphate and ferrous phosphate and thus becomes unavailable to plants.

A field was conducted at Experimental Farm, Agronomy Section, College of Agriculture, Latur. The experimental field was levelled and well drained. The soil was medium and black in colour with good drainage. The soil was clayey in nature and slightly alkaline (7.8) in reaction, low in nitrogen (118.86 kg ha-1 ), medium in available phosphorus (17.7 kg ha-1 ) and rich in available potassium485.89 kg ha-1 ). The environmental conditions were favorably congenial for normal growth and maturity of pigeonpea crop.

Lentil is one of the important legume crop widely grown in India. The availability of low phosphorous in soil is one the major concern for the production of legume crop in the country. Thus, the present study was aimed to evaluate the plant growth promoting efficiency of phosphate solubilizing Chryseobacterium sp. PSR 10 with different doses of inorganic fertilizers (N and P) on lentil growth and yield under field conditions. The phosphate solubilizing potential of this bacterial strain through In vitro tricalcium phosphate solubilization in NBRI-BPB broth medium was 210.43µgml-1 .

A greenhouse experiment was carried out to study the efficiency of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal fungi indigenous to Arunachal Pradesh in uptaking plant nutrients for the Piper mullesua plantlets at different levels of phosphatic fertilizer (Single Super Phosphate). In plants, P availability is considered the second most important limiting factor for growth after nitrogen. While P is generally abundant in soil, it is mostly present in insoluble and poorly mobile forms and therefore partly unavailable to plants.
