Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) are essential nutrients for plant growth and development. However, too much N and P can be toxic to plants and hurt crops and animals. Analysis and assessment of N and P content in soil and crops will help build a balanced and effective fertilizer plan for agricultural production. This study introduces a new method to determine both TP and TN in one process, reducing the analytical cost and time.

A screen house experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2018-19 to find out the effect of different levels of P and Zn on wheat yield, concentration of different nutrients in grain and straw in low and high P status soil. Five levels of P (0, 30, 60, 120 and 180 mg P kg-1 soil) and four levels of Zn (0, 2.5, 5 and 10 mg Zn kg-1 soil) were applied in completely randomized design with three replications.

A long term field experiment was conducted since kharif 2015 for evaluating the effect of inorganic and organic sources of nutrients on soil physical properties and productivity on direct seeded rice ( Oryza satia L.) – MTU1010 under rainfed midland situation at Bastar plateau zone at S. G. College of Agriculture and Research Station, Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh. Random block design was used with twelve treatments and four replications to carry out experiment. The full recommended dose of fertilizer for rice crop was 100kg ha-1 Nitrogen, 60 kg ha-1 phosphorus and 40 kg ha-1.

In the present study, a considerable build up in soil organic carbon under tree canopy as compared to open canopy was found and soil organic carbon under tree canopy decreased with an increase in soil depth and increasing canopy distance. The total nitrogen percentage in soil decreased with an increase in depth and canopy. In case of available soil phosphorus, it decreased under the tree canopy with increasing soil depth and canopy distance.

In general, the phosphorus use efficiency is less as only 30 % of the applied phosphorus is taken by plants in its entire growing season and phosphorus recovery efficiency of applied fertilizers in soil by the crop plant is less than 20 % (Fageria et al., 2011). Intercropping system is one of the best strategies to improve PUE (Hasan et al., 2016).

This study analyzed the morpho-physiological and biochemical alterations associated with P efficiency of crop. Six pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp] genotypes (AL1758, AL1817, AL201, H005, ICPL93081, and ICPL88039) were tested under two P treatments [P fertilizer not added in soil and recommended dose of P (Single Super phosphate @ 250kg/ ha)].
