The application of SBR in the treatment and nutrient recovery of sludge from the ISF can be a potential technical alternative to current technologies in the management of sludge. The objective of this study was to evaluate the removal efficiencies and recovery performance of nitrogen, carbon, and phosphorus (P) in sludge from the intensive whiteleg shrimp ponds under different sequences of react periods (aerobic/ anoxic).

Rice is the staple food for half of the world's population. Phosphorus is an essential element for rice plant growth, development and production; however, the availability of soluble phosphate for plant uptake is often limited due to the binding with cation in different pH environments. Therefore, the development of rice plant varieties, which can grow well under a limited phosphate environment, is an urgent need for agricultural development for biotechnology.

Acquisition of external phosphorus (P) and optimisation of internal P are essential for plant growth and development, and insufficient availability of P in soils is a major challenge in agriculture. Members of the purple acid phosphatase (PAP) family of enzymes are candidates for increasing P use efficiency.

Phosphorus (P) is an important in ensuring plant morphogenesis and grain quality, therefore an efficient root system is crucial for P-uptake. Identification of useful loci for root morphological and P uptake related traits at seedling stage is important for wheat breeding.

Phosphorus (P) deficiency limits crop production worldwide. Crops differ in their ability to acquire and utilise the P available. The aim of this study was to determine root traits (root exudates, root system architecture (RSA), tissue-specific allocation of P, and gene expression in roots) that (a) play a role in P-use efficiency and (b) contribute to large shoot zinc (Zn) concentration in Brassica oleracea.

In general, the phosphorus use efficiency is less as only 30 % of the applied phosphorus is taken by plants in its entire growing season and phosphorus recovery efficiency of applied fertilizers in soil by the crop plant is less than 20 % (Fageria et al., 2011). Intercropping system is one of the best strategies to improve PUE (Hasan et al., 2016).

Enhancement in phosphorus (P) efficiency of crop plants require a better understanding of alterations in root architecture phenes and physio-biochemical processes under phosphorus deprived condition. This study analyzed the morpho-physiological and biochemical alterations associated with P efficiency of crop. Six pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp] genotypes (AL1758, AL1817, AL201, H005, ICPL93081, and ICPL88039) were tested under two P treatments [P fertilizer not added in soil and recommended dose of P (Single Super phosphate @ 250kg/ ha)].

Investigation indicates that valuable effects of biochar could be obtained if it was applied with mycorrhiza. Combined application of biochar (10 t ha-1 soil), phosphorus along with mycorrhiza produced significantly higher uptake of nutrients in baby corn. Biochars are highly variable in nutrient composition and availability, which are determined by types of feedstock and pyrolysis conditions. The results suggest that high-ash biochars with phosphorus are potential P sources with high-agronomic efficiency.

Banana is a highly exhaustive crop which requires large quantities of mineral nutrients for rapid growth and development, thus it readily responds to applied nutrients. Major nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium play an important role in the vegetative and reproductive phases of crop growth, depending on the cultivar.

Therefore, it is essential to find ways and means to increase the efficiency of phosphate rock either by using it alone or as a mixture of phosphate rock and water soluble P fertilizer. A field experiment was conducted during rabi seasons of 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 study the effect of various sources of phosphorus on yield, nutrient uptake and economics of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L) under acid Alfisols of Odisha.

The availability of native phosphorus (P) in Northeast Indian Ultisols, one of the dominant agricultural soils in the region, is relatively low. Given that crop production in North Eastern region is dominated by low external input practices, native P remains important to plant P nutrition in many locations.

Phosphorus is a major limiting factor for plant growth particularly in the tropics and subtropics areas. It play an important role in many biochemical process viz., energy storage and transfer, cell division, cell enlargement and several other processes in plants. The availability of P to plants is a problem owing to its slow diffusion and high fixation in soils. Due to low solubility and mobility in soil, phosphorus use efficiency is very low ranges from 10-20% in normal soil.

Constructed wetlands (CWs) have been used to treat various types of wastewaters such as urban runoff, acid mine drainage, municipal, industrial, and livestock wastewaters. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of two constructed wetlands (surface and horizontal subsurface flows) for piggery wastewater treatment after biogas process. The wetland plant Phragmites australis Cav. was used in two CWs. The flow rate of the CWs was 100 liters/day with the hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 3 days.

Use of nitrogen fixing and phosphate solubilizing microorganisms (biofertilizers) has become an important aspect of pulse crops production technology. The efficiency of these microorganisms differs widely in accruing the benefits of their application in crops. Ten Mesorhizobium isolates having various plant growth promoting (PGP) traits including phosphate solubilization were screened for their symbiotic efficiency in terms of root nodulation, plant dry matter production, nitrogen and phosphorus content and nitrogen fixation by chickpea plant in a field experiment during 2015-16.
