Previous investigations have shown promising results of physical exercise for relieving pain among different occupational groups, but the question remains whether such physical exercise should be performed at the workplace or conducted as home-based exercise.

More than seven out of 10 Dutch construction workers describe their work as physically demanding. Ergonomic measures can be used to reduce these physically demanding work tasks. To increase the use of ergonomic measures, employers and workers have to get used to other working methods and to maintaining them.

Perceived psychological and social factors at work were strongly associated with fear–avoidance beliefs about work in sick-listed neck and back patients. The demand for physical endurance, control, support, high reward, as well as overcommittment at work outweighed pain and added to the burden of emotional distress and disability regarding fear–avoidance beliefs.

Low back pain (LBP) is common among healthcare workers, whose work is physically strenuous and thus demands certain levels of physical fitness and spinal control. Exercise is the most frequently recommended treatment for LBP. However, exercise interventions targeted at sub-acute or recurrent patients are scarce compared to those targeted at chronic LBP patients.

The solutions as presented generally just provide a guidance to solving the problems, rather than step by step manipulation, and leave much to the students to work out for themselves, of whom much is demanded of the basic knowledge in physics. Thus the series would provide an invaluable complement to the textbooks. The present volume for Mechanics which consists of three parts Newtonian Mechanics, Analytical Mechanics, and Special Relativity contains 410 problems.

Radiology plays a pivotal role in this process....

Here is how things change. Originally, the public school curriculum was designed under the assumption that students would, in the main, work on assembly lines, or do physical labor. But assembly lines today are highly mechanized, and much of the current assembly line work demands high level programming and maintenance of robotic mechanisms. Similar changes have occurred with respect to direct physical labor. For example, even 40 years back, dock-work was brutal - lifting and carrying.

Noting a marked lack of comprehensiveness and/or contemporaneity among typical reference works on chemical etymology[1-7] as well as a somewhat spotty coverage of chemical terms and their etymology in comprehensive dictionaries and textbooks [8-10] the present author decided to write an up-to-date desk reference on chemical etymology which would satisfy the needs of casual readers as well as those of more demanding users of etymological lore.

Having worked in a variety of specialty areas over the years as staff nurses, clinical nurse specialists, educators, therapists, and managers, we realize that nurses aspire to become highly proficient in their area of practice. But psychosocial skills are often more difficult to perfect. Very often nurses feel inadequately prepared to deal with complex behaviors and psychiatric problems on top of the demands of providing physical care for the patient and family.

Your money earns money. When your money goes to work, it may earn a steady paycheck. Someone pays you to use your money for a period of time. When you get your money back, you get it back plus “interest.” Or, if you buy stock in a compa- ny that pays “dividends” to shareholders, the company may pay you a portion of its earnings on a regular basis. Your money can make an “income,” just like you. You can make more money when you and your money work. You buy something with your money that could in- crease in value. You become an owner of something that you hope...

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), like hepatitis C and HIV, is a disease of our generation. Mostly unrecognized prior to 1980 and seldom taken seriously until the past few years, NAFLD has seemingly been thrust upon us unexpectantly like an orphaned child left at our clinical bedside. In fact, NAFLD was conceived during the industrial revolution, which caused food to be processed differently, provided that food more abundantly and made physical work less demanding.
