This report describes a 2-year prospective, longitudinal survey of attending physicians in 3 clinical areas (family medicine, general pediatrics, internal medicine) who experienced a transition from a homegrown electronic health record (EHR) to a vendor EHR. Participants were already highly familiar with using EHRs.

Advanced osteoarthritis and total joint replacement (TJR) recovery are painful experiences and often prompt opioid use in developed countries. Physicians participating in the philanthropic medical mission Operation Walk Boston (OpWalk) to the Dominican Republic have observed that Dominican patients require substantially less opioid medication following TJR than US patients.

Methods: This was a single group pilot study involving 60 participants with symptomatic, physician diagnosed knee or hip OA, recruited from primary care clinics. The Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) is a population-based breast screening programme, not requiring physician referral. OBSP invites women by mail to book their next screens. However, women who do not participate in the OBSP, may be referred by physicians to non-OBSP mammography facilities, which do not remind women to book their next screen.

This paper describes an implementation of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) which has been adapted for the purposes of teaching health professional students, including medical and nursing students. Off-the-shelf EMR software, while suited for physicians in practice settings does not completely satisfy the needs of these students and educators. There are many unique requirements of a teaching EMR compared to one used in a production environment.

With regard to human resources in the health care sector, Hungary had 3.1 active physicians per 1000 population in 2008. The number of physicians has dropped substantially since 2003, and increased professional mobility may lead to a further decline in this ratio in the near future. The physician-based assessment of ALRI and COPD is unlikely to be feasible for most small- to medium-scale projects and programmes, unless they partner with a research or governmental agency interested in conducting a thorough health study. On the other hand, a combination of qualitative methods (such as key informant interviews and focus group discussions) and a questionnaire-based health assessment can yield results of great value to both the community and the implementers, as well as relevant insights for public health.

Only peer-reviewed studies published in English in the last decade (1995–2005) were included in this review. The search was limited to the last decade in order to source the most recent, high-quality evidence [27]. This decision was justified on the grounds that systematic reviews evaluating the earlier literature found many of the included studies to be of poor or moderate methodologi- cal quality [13-15] and based on the findings of Moseley et al (2002), it was assumed that the more recent literature was more likely to be of higher methodolgical quality.
