  • Totally 3 different irrigated paddy field soils were collected from Thanjavur district, Tamilnadu and their physico-chemical properties and population density of mycoflora were analyzed. Among them, 2 samples were sandy clay loamy soil and 1 sample was loamy soil. The physiochemical parameters were also analysed. The population density of mycoflora was maximum (52) observed in sandy clay loamy soil at Kollakadu, minimum (33) population density was observed in loamy soil at Pathirankottai.

  • Gamma radiation is the most commonly used mutagen in plants as it causes a high frequency of induced mutations. It can be used to overcome the difficulties in papaya breeding to get true to type plantlets especially in dioecious varieties. An optimum dose is highly desired to produce the high frequency of mutations with minimum killing of treated individuals. Therefore, the present investigation was undertaken to determine the LD50 of gamma rays and effect of different dosages of gamma rays on morphological, physiochemical, biochemical parameters of papaya.

  • For the bioremediation of sludge, samples were collected from different places near Jalandhar city of the Punjab (India). In order to analyze the sludge, the physiochemical parameters like pH, Moisture and heavy metal are determined. The bacterial strain Pseudomonas aeruginosa was screened for the removal of heavy metal like LEAD and COPPER from the industrial sludge. The effect on pH and moisture was determined. Maximum lead removal was noted to be 0.20 by Pseudomonas aeruginosa species from the sludge sample and copper removal was noted to be 0.30 by P. aeruginosa species.

  • A pulsed electric field (PEF) process was applied to unclarified apple juices at 30 and 40 kV cm–1 for 50, 100, 150, and 200 pulses after preheating to 40 °C. Afterwards, polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzyme levels, loss of total phenolic (TP) compounds, and alterations of the physiochemical parameters of the apple juice were determined.
