Twenty one genotypes including check Krishna were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications during kharif-2017 at research farm of TCA, Dholi for estimation of genetic variability among them. Genotypes varied significantly for all the morpho-physiological characters indicating the presence of considerable variability among the genotypes. Significant bidirectional shift was observed in the mean values as compared to better check, thus provided scope for selection.

Sweet sorghum is a new generation bio-energy crop with considerable tolerance to drought and salinity and amenable for multiple uses. Sweet sorghum has elicited the interest of breeder due to its capacity to provide renewable energy products, industrial commodities, food and animal feed. The sweet sorghum donor RSSV 313 is developed through a cross NSS223 x NARI 111 at MPKV, Rahuri through pedigree selection as identified and recommended as a donor parent in crop improvement programme based on specific physiological traits viz.

The homozygous state for the α-thalassemia-1 cis deletion (hydrops fetalis) causes total absence of α-globin synthesis. No physiologically useful hemoglobin is produced beyond the embryonic stage. Excess γ-globin forms tetramers called Hb Barts (γ4), which has a very high oxygen affinity. It delivers almost no O 2 to fetal tissues, causing tissue asphyxia, edema (hydrops fetalis), congestive heart failure, and death in utero. α-Thalassemia-2 trait is common (15–20%) among people of African descent. The cis α-thalassemia-1 deletion is almost never seen, however.
