Ebook "Metabolism of human diseases: Organ physiology and pathophysiology" examines the physiology of key organs (e.g. brain, eye, lung, heart, blood vessels, blood, immune system, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, liver, fat tissue, kidney, reproductive system, teeth, bone and joints) and how defective metabolism and signaling pathways within these organs contribute to common human diseases. The book also describes commonly used drugs and explains their molecular targets.

The study was conducted on six healthy non-descript goats of either sex weighing between 20-25 kg by administrating atropine sulphate (0.04 mg/kg I/M) followed by medetomidine (10 µg/kg I/M) and 15 min. later followed by induction of anaesthesia with ketofol (5mg/kg I/V). After medetomidine administration, lowering of head was observed in all the animals within 4.20±0.33 min. After ketofol injection, there was rapid and smooth onset of anaesthesia (0.550.15 min). There was marked sedation with protrusion of tongue from buccal cavity, profuse salivation was noticed.

Anophthalmia is recorded for the first time in Terapont heraps. The specimen was caught by trawl net at Versova, northwest coast of India. Mature female Terapont heraps weighing 58.78 gm and 13.06 cm total length. Comparison of anophthalmic specimen with a normal specimen could not show significant variation in morphometric and meristic traits and the deformity may be congenital which has not affected growth and physiology of fish.

Myiasis occurs when open wounds are infested with larvae of Diptera flies. A three day old female calf was presented with a history of ocular injury which was complicated by secondary maggot infestation in the medial canthus of the right eye. The ocular injury occurred as a complication of manual correction of dystocia using eye hooks. On general clinical examination, the physiological parameters were found to be within the normal range. Ophthalmic examination of the eye revealed that the animal was blind in the right eye.

This study tries to find out the current health status and the care practices of the retired elderly Professors of Kathmandu. Descriptive research design has been followed and all together 30 male and 10 female retired professors were selected conveniently. Structured questionnaire was used to collect the data and information. This study reveals that, most of the respondents (around 50%) were from 60-69 years young-old age group. In most cases, economic condition (around 90% have their own pension), marital life (around 62.

The special senses are smell, taste, vision, hearing, and equilibrium. They are called special senses because their sensory receptors are located within relatively large sensory organs in the head - the nose, tongue, eyes, and ears. Chapter 31 - Special senses, this chapter introduces the structure and function of these sense organs and focuses on common diseases of the eyes and ears.

We view this increasing inverse correlation ofmotion and shot length as an amplifying effect. That is, short shots likely increase viewer response to films and film segments, forcing observer eye movements to quickly reevaluate each new visual depiction and increasing heart rate and other bodily responses (Carruthers and Taggart 1973). Addingmoremotion to these short shots is likely to increase viewer response all the more.We suggest that this increasing correlationmay help to couple attention to broader physiological responses.

The physical basis of color exists in the interaction of light with matter, both outside and inside the eye. The sensation of color depends on physiological activity in the visual system that begins with the absorption of light in photoreceptors located in the retina of the eye and ends with patterns of biochemical activity in the brain. Perceived color can be described by the color names white, gray, black, yellow, orange, brown, red, green, blue, purple, and pink. These 11 basic color terms have unambiguous referents in all fully developed languages.

Parinaud's Syndrome Also known as dorsal midbrain syndrome, this is a distinct supranuclear vertical gaze disorder from damage to the posterior commissure. It is a classic sign of hydrocephalus from aqueductal stenosis. Pineal region tumors, cysticercosis, and stroke also cause Parinaud's syndrome. Features include loss of upgaze (and sometimes downgaze), convergence-retraction nystagmus on attempted upgaze, downwards ocular deviation ("setting sun" sign), lid retraction (Collier's sign), skew deviation, pseudoabducens palsy, and light-near dissociation of the pupils.

Treatment is justified if it has significantly improved their wellbeing and function. A combination of medication with psychological techniques is likely to be most beneficial, especially for resistant cases. Sleep disorders NORMAL SLEEP Humans spend about a third of the time asleep but why we sleep is not yet fully understood. Sleep is a state of inactivity accompanied by loss of awareness and a markedly reduced responsiveness to environmental stimuli.
