Phytochemical variation

The present study on “Characterization of tamarind accessions for morphometric traits and phytochemical composition” was carried out at Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore, during 2018-19 and 2019-20. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design with three replications and twenty two accessions with the objective to find out the superior fruit characters and phytochemical parameters genotypes. Significant variations were observed among the genotypes with respect to fruit characters and quality parameters.

The present investigation entitled “Studies on morphological and phytochemical variation between two varieties of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) at different concentration of sodium azide” was conducted in Department of Plant Biotechnology in SDMVM‟s college of Agriculture Biotechnology, Georai Tanda, Aurangabad. The aim of study was to see the effect of sodium azide on germination percentage and to study the morphological and phytochemical variation between of two varieties of fenugreek (Gaytri and Haldighati).

The widespread use of herbal remedies and healthcare preparations is described in the Vedas and the Bible. Medicinal Plants have been used for thousands of years to flavor and conserve food, to treat health disorders and to prevent diseases including epidemics.

This study focused on the screening of leaves and tubers of Tacca leontopetaloides (L.) Kuntze collected from different locations for the presence of secondary metabolites and to determine the extent of the environment on these constituents. The study showed the presence of alkaloids, saponins and tannins in the leaf of T. leontopetaloides while only alkaloids were present in the tubers. Variations in the presence of alkaloids and cardiac glycosides in the leaf and tuber samples of the plant were observed.

The present study was conducted to determine the phenological changes in the content of main flavonoids, namely amentoflavone, hyperoside, isoquercitrin, quercitrin, quercetin, avicularin, rutin, (+)-catechin, and (–)-epicatechin in different tissues of Hypericum pruinatum, a promising medicinal herb of the Turkish flora.

The proportion of children reported to attend religious services weekly or monthly shows a different pattern of variation across states. The proportion is highest – upwards of 85 percent – in Southern states like Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and South Carolina. The proportion is lowest in the New England states of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, with less than or just over half of young people attending services regularly. North Central states like the Dakotas and Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota, come out relatively high in both family stability and religious observance.

How different levels of genetic variance affect the rate of evolutionary change within populations has also been intensively studied. Such changes were originally studied using phenotypic markers: variation among individual plants in traits, such as leaf shape or flower color (Ward et al., 2008). Subsequently the detection of genetic variation has become more sensitive, firstly through the utilization of variation in enzymes (allozymes) and then through PCR-based marker systems allowing direct examination of DNA sequence variation.
